Can everyone respond and tell me if $52 bucks and some odd cents a month is normal for 7 megs road runner, and road runner only, no phone or cable?  I am trying to figure out if i can negotiate a deal with TWC.

Do they have 2 megs, would that be good for streaming netflix on Tivo or PS3 and MLB TV on PS3?

That does seem high.  You can get it down to about $40 if you bundle with another TWC service (Digital Cable, Digital Phone.)  What I would do is call and ask for their "Customer Retention Department." and explain your situation if you can't strike a deal going through the regular CSR's.  Customer Retentions might be able to offer you a discount and get that price down to $40 for you.  You probably aren't going to get lower than that going through them.  See if they can get it as close to $40 as a starting point.  If they offer you another service, than that $50 seems ok, but not just for Road Runner alone.

Not sure about your Streaming Video question.  They have Road Runner Turbo, but that's expensive, $10 MORE per month.  Anybody know how much faster Road Runner Turbo is?  Everyone I know just has Road Runner Standard, and is happy with that.

I'm paying $40 + tax/fees for turbo.  I don't have phone or cable TV.  If the same deal is going on, you could probably get 7Mbps for $30 a month.  I've been at the same price for 2+ years... just have to call back every year to get the price back down.  Normal price is $50 for 7Mbps + $10 for turbo.

Turbo is 15Mbps plus powerboost.  I've seen it go as high as 30Mbps on a download for the first 30 seconds or so.  7Mbps service has powerboost also.  I think the highest rate for SD Netflix is 3Mbps and HD might be 4-5Mbps.  If you go with 2Mbps it will still work, but the picture quality won't be the greatest.

Also remember .. you can buffer your streaming.   Do the cost/benefit of, say $15 extra a month which is $180 per year (before taxes, so let's say $200).

You have $200 in one hand .. in the other hand, you have waiting a minute for a movie to buffer, plus another minute or two bathroom break later on, when it needs to buffer again.

You can easily get by on 2 megs down.  My entire company of 80 internet users SHARE one T1, which is 1.5 down.   Admittedly, it's not awesome, but it's fast enough 99% of the time.

I'm not sure you can force Netflix to an HD stream and buffer it.  They dynamically change the bit rate based on your connection.  You might be able to change it on the PC, but I don't think you can with the PS3 or Tivo.  2Mbps is good enough for SD if nobody else is using the internet connection, but not HD.  Probably the same with mlb.tv.

Thanks for the responses.  One mentioned bundling, the problem is that I don't need a landline for any reason right now and even if bundling with TV gets road runner down to about 40 bucks thats still more money for the TV portion.

I was thinking about downgrading to about 2 megs, which i was told by many people is fine for SD, but not HD.  I think I will give customer retention a call to see what can be done.  I also looked at going with AT&T instead, but i have heard bad customer service stories and how their initial installation of the modem costs a lot.

Does anyone use AT&T internet?  If so do you have your own wireless router?  Any other companies for internet.  Isn't verizon becoming one along with pay TV as well?

Use them to get better price from TW.

Those aren't very good deals. I notice it's their normal DSL; not U-verse.

I'm at 15 Mbit down from RR and with tax my bill is only $62/mo. I do not have any other Time Warner services

I've been paying $29.95 per month for the 7 Mbps Roadrunner service for the last couple years. Here's how: For the last 2 years, Centurytel has run a special for $29.95 per month(I don't even know the speed). I then callled TWC and told them, and they reduced my price for another year to $29.95.

Uverse offers a 12/1.5 for $45. If you are willing to spend 20 min on the phone with TW's CS about a price match. You can save at least $10 a month.

AT&T offers U-verse 24/3 Mbps package for $65.

I don't see why anyone would go with Time Warner these days. They aren't being competitive at all. They better roll out their 'Wideband' soon or they're going to lose all their customers to AT&T.

I have the DSL PRO from ATT.  I think it runs up to 2.4megs?  It works great for sd streaming netflix.  I am not really that picky though.   I have the ROKU and couldn't be happier.  I did the install on the modem myself and I have a wireless router which was all very easy to do.
