Which Milwaukee newscast will be the next to go HD?

Jack 1000

Well,

Channel 4 was the first.  But in a battle between channel 6 and 12, I would say channel 12.

Umm,  I think Ch. 6 already is HD.

WITI Fox 6 went HD in December. You must mean a battle between 12 and 5, which is CBS 58, unless you get it OTA.

CBS 58 seems to be woefully incompetent at broadcasting other programming in HD - 10 Mbps bitrate, stereo audio - WTF? It's the most ****-poor HD I've ever seen, shameful coming from a big network affiliate. Even PBS, ION, and the MyNetworkTV channels have better HD operations.

Meanwhile, WISN broadcasts at the full bitrate allowed by ATSC standards - 17+ Mbps, very impressive for an ABC affiliate these days.

Taking these factors into consideration, I'm going with ABC. WDJT just has a ghetto feel to it.

Once upon a day, I had predicted 12 would be first in Milwaukee to go HD. After all, they were the first commercial station to do HD, and live HD at that; they're the number one news station in the area, and they have produced their own glossy newsmagazine type show in the past. (Which, I might ask: whatever happened to that?)

Then 4 beat them, and I thought "ok, they'll follow shortly..." Then 6 beat them. Now, I'm inclined to think that 58 might beat them too, sad as that might be.

Yes, I stand corrected.

I voted for channel 12 in the poll.

I really think that it is going to be some time before 12 news goes HD.  It doesn't seem like going HD has significantly impacted the ratings for 4 and 6 so 12 is probably thinking why bother?  Seems like people are more interested in seeing actual news in SD than something TMZ-style in HD.  It will take a lot more than going HD for me to switch back to 4.

Golly, with "TMJ-HD" you could be watching "Chopper 4 with Power Zoom", and "Storm Team 4".  Won't you feel left out?

Actually, I'm finding less and less of interest on the local news -- regardless of channel.  Maybe I've become an old(er) curmudgeon, but I don't have an irresistable urge to get all the local happenings these days.

Either way, who's next, who will be first out of the two, or who will be last. Whichever way you choose to view it.

At the pace these two are going, maybe I should have made that a choice.:bang:

IDK but whenever I'm watching the local news for any reason, WISN and WDJT aren't even on the radar for me because they're not HD.

I'll take any of the Chicago affiliates or Milwaukee's competent affiliates over the SD crap these two incompetent affiliates think is acceptable.

I could give a crap who is in HD or not.  I watch for news and news only.  HD only came around because the FCC wanted the analog spectrum to sell off.  Thus digital was born.  With digital came HD.

Why are you even on this site?

Lollin' @ this guy who watches American news outlets for "the news."
