The DirecTV's D12 satellite is being moved into position.  If all the rest of the testing goes well, D* ought to add a number of HD channels to their line-up, in a few weeks' time.  That should heat up the competition with Dish and the cable providers.  See //www.dbstalk.com  for details.

I think D* will be including three 3D channels in the mix, too.  How well 3D will be received (no pun intended) by the public remains unknown.  Not only does the programming have to be appealing, it will require 3D-capable hardware and those special glasses.

Stay tuned (pun intended).

Looks like it should be in its final location this weekend if it continues to move as fast as it is now.

Ahhh... D12. One more way of showing everyone who the HD god is... :D

Supposedly, D*'s "MRV" (multi-room viewing) is on the verge of being generally available; say, late May.  While it will require some re-wiring, it will give them another competitive weapon in the marketplace.

Once D12 is in place, they are temporarily going to move all of D10's programming over to D12 so that they can fix D10's spotbeam problem.  Hopefully it doesn't take too long.  With that setup they supposedly can still add around 10 new HD channels in the mean time.

D12 is sending a signal (103ca in the signal strength menu).  New channels are coming next week.

Pretty wild swings in the transponder strengths last night. Haven't been able to check today.

Signal strengths were pretty good for a short time. Lowest being 83 highest 97.

All the transponders are lit up.

Check channels 9508 and 9509. These will confirm your set up as being compatible with D12.

MRV actually went "live" today.
