Well, here we are -- Tuesday AM with two inches of snow on the ground, and more promised.  The local stations have been at it since 4:00 AM, and the morning programs (such as Today) have been pre-empted.

Meanwhile, I'm looking out my downtown office window at 8:25 AM, and it's hardly snowing and/or blowing.

Hysteria reigns, however -- there are closings all over the place.  We must be getting soft -- whose fault is it anyway?

I don't think its a matter of getting soft...the closings are happening based on the forecast for snow fall.  it may not end up being as bad as they thought it would be, but most schools would rather err on the side of caution, if anything to avoid a barrage of lawsuits

That's what I am thinking as well. The powers that be would rather have communities over informed than not at all.  However, I still believe that channel 4's graphics are too big for the storm closings.  But at least they have been able to retain the HD portion of the picture where other stations cannot.

WITI's picture in the "U" is still HD...

Those idiots on TMJ4 have 1 HOUR EXTENDED news cast at 10:00 o'clock tonight, because we haven't had enough news about the weather today . :bang:

I was in an outdoor heated pool, @7:30 am. watching the sunrise.

Where was I?..............Wonderful Phoenix, AZ.

We are morons for living here. If I could, I would leave tomorrow.

Knowing my taxes would be 1/4 of what I presently pay, getting a 3 bedroom house with a 2 car garage with an in ground pool for $90,000.

In addition, they have an underground aquifer which serves the Phoenix area and has a life expectancy of 150 years, ends the debate of the water fallacy.

And finally, we have spent 2 weeks there in August. The heat is not a problem, as the humidity is 5%. So when its 90 and the humidity is 1000%, here, there really is no difference.

I could go on, but I will just make myself sick.

The problem I have is that they keep showing the closings past 6:00 at night. I think that by time primetime programming comes on, you should know that your school's been closed all day. :bang:

$90,000 for that in Phx? What decade..the 80s? Unless it's in a slum. maybe $190,000?I'm sure not defending our nasty winters but ill take our summers over Phx any year. I think we hit 90 once or twice last year which are usually followed by some fresh canadian air. BTW,Its not the humidity that determines how uncomfortable you are,it's the dewpoint. Anytime dewpoint gets over 70 its pretty muggy. Pheonix,in their monsoon season of late summer, regularly gets 50-60 dewpoints and combined with the opressive heat, thats pretty unbearable. But sure,Ill trade THEIR winters for ours.

And yes, taxes here are insane. We bought a house in Muskego last spring and our taxes went down $1200 a year from our previous house in Greendale. (Milw.county taxes are among the worst)Not to mention almost 1/2 an acre now compared with 1/8 in Greendale and 300 more sq.ft of house space. But,put our house and land anywhere down south and it would be about 1/3 of what it is here for prop.taxes. It's nuts.:bang:

When I say Phoenix, I am speaking of the metropolitan area. Casa Grande, by the way a very nice and safe community, sits half way between Phoenix and Tuscon. This would be from say West Allis to Lake Mills.  It has all the retail stores, resturants, etc. that we are accustomed to.  Drive time is about 45 minutes. By the way the posted speed is 75. However, you can set the cruise control at 85 and you will be  in the traffic flow.

The attached home is listed at $87, 500.

They were right -- I was wrong.  As of 8:00 PM Tuesday, it is snowing like all get out; it's cold, windy, you name it.  There's a ton of snow on the ground, too.  They called it right this time.  What a night to stay home and watch the Bucks on TV (I had tickets, but.... fuggedaboudit).

Well,no wonder. It' a foreclosure. A sad sign of the times. Taxes arent bad ,about $800 less than what we pay.

Knowing that you can wake up jumping in a pool 8 or 9 months a year.......Pretty sweet......

I lived in phoenix for 25 years.  I'm actually probably one of the oldest native born people from phoenix you'll ever meet.  I've been away for about 8 years now, but when I was there Casa Grande was not premium real estate!  Most of my phoenix friends are upside down on their homes as the value has plummeted in the past several years.

I will avoid commenting on the natural resources aspect on living in Phoenix since this isn't the forum for that.

I now live in Milwaukee and prefer it hands down.  There's 3 months here that aren't the best, but we have heat those months.  There are 3 months in phoenix that stink, but they have A/C.  No place can beat a mid september evening on the deck in the middle of the largest deciduous forest in the world with a wisconsin brew in my hands.  I even run outside in the winter now.  I guess I am a total convert.

One thing that is sure no matter if you live in Phoenix, Milwaukee, NYC, or LA, the local news is always cheesy, overdone, and useless!

Was River Hills, but maybe closer to say Greenfield. Just comfortable living, with all the every day amenities of a much larger city.

Anyway, different strokes for different folks.
