Ok I know this has been mentioned a few times but every Tivo user with the two S-cards or 1 M-Card and tuning adapter should know this.

As I believe we should know, the light should be solid.  According to someone at TWC Cust Service says it should not blink 8 times.  If you ever have problems with this, call customer service and ask for Tier 3, they are actually very knowledgeable.  Ask them to check the occurance/balancing.  Usually they can send a signal from the office to fix it.  Also they usually ask to power down the tuning adapter and switch the USB cable to the other port (i was asked to move mine from top to bottom).  Usually this will fix it.  Also the TWC rep told me that Cisco is coming out with a firmware update in the near future to hopefully fix this.

Just an FYI.

Cisco better come out with firmware fix soon for the channel sync problem too!

So far, I haven't seen any of the issues described with the tuning adapters. :)

The TWC level 3 tech told me my channel sync issue was a known problem and that it was being worked on.  Maybe you have a "fixed" sdv adapter.

I was one of the first production installs (they even had to send out a supervisor with the technician because it was so new), and it's worked beautifully since day one. I dunno... I'm not going to argue, I'm just going to be thankful. :)

Lucky you.  Maybe you are in an area with more reliable HEADEND equipment.  Or is it all the same in TWC's SE Wisc area?

They did the same to me, I was one of the first, in March 2009, where they sent two technicians.  They even sent a supervisor when I moved to help the technician.  Like I had mentioned every now and then the Tuning adaptors have issues (lucky for Loadstar not for him), but just have tier 3 check the balancing/occurance on there computer.  They will usually ask that you power it down then power back up and switch around the USB port.  I have heard some say the USB must be in the top, and others say it must be in the bottom, but that isn't true.

Speaking of USB port, Loadstar, or anyone, do you have the My DVR expander external hard drive?  I just want to see who has it before I get it, to see if it really works the way described.  I know it formats to your box (whether Tivo or a cable company box) and simply adds more space, depending on if you get the 500 gb or the 1 terabyte.

I don't, but keep in mind that you need the eSATA version for use with TiVo, NOT the USB version. The USB version will not work at all.

Well, for the first time since I got the tuning adapter, almost a year now, I finally got the 8-blink pattern. A quick call to Tier 3 support, a "hit" to the adapter, and a reboot, and I'm back on just fine. :)

Tivoman44

Yep that'll do it.  I don't know if you saw my other posts but I'm canceling cable, just sick of paying the price.

TiVo Dude

I'll second the usefulness of Tier Three support.  Not only did they instantly (well, within five minutes) fix the dreaded 8-flash, but they also answered lots of questions and clued me in on the efforts being made by TiVo and Time-Warner to find a more permanent fix.  Tier Three ftw!

Tivoman44

what did the tier 3 techs tell you, sometime about a firmware update?
