I have had the thought of contacting local advertisers about this issue.  However I haven't reached that point.

I'll toss my sarcasm into the fray.

Any business that puts profits over quality is ultimately doomed.  OTA stations can do a better job and I think in time they will.

I wish this was true, and I think it would be if everyone was like the members of this forum!  Look at many of the most successful businesses right now.  You make the lowest quality things you can because most people don't care.  Most people want more, lower quality stuff rather than less quality stuff.  Wal-mart is the obvious example.  Miller lite is another.  In each area, there a group of consumers who demand the highest quality but we are in the minority.

Give it time.

In the business I'm in we have a saying: "You only pay for quality once."

The picture quality is making the AFT title game unpleasant to watch.

Not if you are a monopoly. Unless the networks implement a full bit rate for their programmings. Nothing will change, but will only get worst.

If there was another outlet to watch CBS. No one would care about 58. At this point, I wouldn't minded paying to the networks and get a high quality stream to my TV and by-pass the locals. Those freaking :Shoot:sub-channels are getting out of hand.

Since I live half way between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Howards Grove I get both markets.  The game on WFRV with no sub-channels outstanding.  Switch to 58 Milwaukee and you can see reduced bit rate.  To the average viewer I don't think they notice the different.  Bottom line for 58 NO CHANGE DUDE!!

I happened to be splitting my time with the AFC game yesterday between a home with TWC and my home with D* and OTA.

While tweaking my brothers audio system we had the game on thru TWC.

The PQ was awful, ALOT of macroblocking with anything that moved, period.

He really didn't notice and thought it was normal:bang:

I went home and compared both the OTA feed and the D* feed. Some of the same macroblocking thru D* not as bad. OTA still some blocking but not as bad as D*.

To sum it up. They need to increase the bit rate on 58-1.

And to think, we have to watch the Super Bowl in all it's bit starved HD glory!

What is an AFT game?

You must not be very bright to not realize it was a typo.

You must be very rude to respond the way you did and assume it was anything other than an honest question.

Honestly........
What is stopping the fine folks at Weigel Broadcast from moving those subchannels on 58-2 thru 58-4 (not counting the 58-5 placeholder) over to channel 49?

The Grammys are just awful to watch whenever there is any movement or when the video screen in the background moves.

Would it be asking too much for a little friggin quality over quanity? Especially when you have a channel that airs 5 channels of COLOR BARS!

The increased difficulty of compressing an interlaced frame format doesn't help either.
Maybe CBS should try changing to a progressive frame format.

Of course, then people would whine because it would be only 720p.

bschlafer

In an era when the capabilities of even the average television set can outstrip the signal quality delivered by OTA broadcasters, it seems foolish to dilute PQ even further by spreading bandwidth across so many unnecessary sub-channels.

One (or perhaps two) channels with decent PQ is far better than five channels of fuzzy pixelated junk.

The local stations better get their act together, or the only thing they will be good for will be infomercials, 24 hour local weather and broadcasts of school board meetings.

And this from a dedicated OTA fan!

Come on guys.  You can do better.  Give your viewers a reason to choose OTA over cable and sat.

Haven't you figured it out yet? Looking at the content of the subchannels on 58, one can figure out that the color bar channels on 49 aren't just empty channels with colorbars filling them but instead ColorbarTV. Five channels of all colorbars, all the time, for your color-calibrating convenience! Featuring the Tone-tacular Test Tone Band!
