It installed smoothly as instructed. We'll see if this helps.
I installed the upgrade before the digital transition, but I still don't have a guide as of tonight.

Shoot, I thought I found the problem. I do have a functional clock.
We'll see if I get any data tonight....

Don't get too discouraged.  There are people on the AVS forum that have multiple units with some getting a guide, but others not.

I'm trying the 00000 ZIP code reset and rescan trick tonight.

Good luck, and please keep updating this thread.

Good news! I got TVGOS data on my first Sony DVR! But my second DHG HDD 250 is not cooperating. It seems genuinely sick; I can't even get the menu to display after a hard reboot. I am considering Sony's $150 flat rate repair.

Congratulations of the first one.  Sorry to hear about the second one.  If you can get it fixed for $150, that's still a pretty good deal.

I'm happy to report that as of last night my Sony recognized 58.1 as its host station, and this morning the guide was almost fully populated.

Hi Scott...

Thanks for the info.  I recently got a DHG-HDD250, and the TVGOS did not work - I attempted to update via USB with "compatible" sticks - didn't work - sent it in.   Took 2 weeks and another $180 to get it back.

Set up TVGOS again, and nothing was updated after 3 days.   I attempted to do a factory reset (HOLD AUX POWER & MENU for 5 secs)  - again, didn't work - had to send it in AGAIN...

What are you doing to receive the TVGOS - tuning to 58.1 and turning it off?!?

I'm VERY frustrated!

Thanks for ANY help!!!

MUCH appreciated!!!!

Hi Lou,

A little off-topic, but:

If you're only using the DHG-250 for OTA, I would recommend that you consider a DTVPal DVR.  I've had mine since December, and it's been fantastic.  It has two tuners and also uses TVGOS, though Dish's implementation of it.  It had some early bugs for many users, but since the software has been straightened out it has been superb.

You can ignore this if you have cable.  DTVPal DVR is OTA only.

Hello I have an LG 26LX1D tv manufactured 2006.  Used to work fine with TVGOS and ever since the transition it does not.  Tried the 00000 and 99999 reset although didn't work.  Maybe I did it wrong?  Main screen is black stating "There is no data for this screen".  There is no updated time/clock.

I have a newer Sony HDTV that works perfectly with TVGOS.

I've sent info to rovi corporation (formally macrovision) a few months ago and never got a reply after a few back and forth emails so finally gave up.  Sent an email to LG support to see if they have a firmware update for this discontinued model.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.  Hopefully this is the right thread.  Seems like Scott keeps an eye on it.  :)

Sorry, but I don't know anything about your specific model.  Since this thread is for the Sony HD DVR, I'd start a new thread with your TV, referencing the TV Guide problem.  It may catch the eye of someone else in the area that has that model.

The TV may have only been designed to use the analog TV Guide, but that would be a disappointment since it's only a few years old. If you just want to get a guide on the TV, you might want to consider one of the digital TV boxes that supports the TV Guide OS.  I'm not sure if there are HD versions that do, but you still may want to check around.

I wouldn't have expected you to get a response from Rovi/Macrovision/Gemstar.  From what I've read, they aren't really staffed to handle consumer inquires.  They usually point fingers at the manufacturers, who will then often point at TV Guide and/or your local station.  This part of the digital transition was not handled well at all.  Since it's a free (for consumers) service, I would guess that there aren't a lot of funds available for troubleshooting.

Good luck,

Scott
