My mom has cancer. She sold her house and is moving into a apartment. She has TWC, phone,internet and cable. 3 receivers. I bought her a Plasma 50 inch for my/parents. 50th anniversary. I thought I would  get a HD box for it so I went to the TWC office on HWY 100 and Greenfield. To exchange a SD box for the HD box. I was told can't be done and that a service tech would have to come out for a service call to turn on the services climb the pole ya da ya da. This could not be done for a week this was the next available time they could make it. So while going thru kemo & radiation, no phone no TV no internet. Oh, and I can't exchange the box till after the service call and if I want them to bring one it would have to be rescheduled, which would push it farther down the road . Well first they are old and don't need a lot of friles. So as they moved in today I went over. Hooked up all tv's, modem, phone. All worked. TV internet and phone. Scanned all channels, free HD. Packed up the receivers. returned them. Canceled service call. Saved my mom 15.00 a month for two extra receivers, 50.00 for service call. this comes to 230.00 for the year. And and conformation that either the employees are incompetent or crooks. By the way two were at the window and supported each point that sounded as dumb as the last. Receivers did work but there package was the bottom and no need for them.  Again over selling. So glad I never have to use TWC again. Sorry for the rant. Peace{fart}

That's alright sometimes it's just good to let it out. With TWC it's easy man, it's very easy!

Agreed,

This is a sad story.  Why would TWC want $50 for a service call?  I have always had my TWC service calls free, and thankfully only about 5 of them in 15 years.  So what service did you get for your parents now?  U-Verse, Dish?  That's terrible.  I'd complain to TWC for their rudeness and B.S attitude towards you and your family.

They stayed with TW. Kinda have to, it is a apartment complex. They have a few options but simple is better for them. That was the whole thing.Cable is in the whole complex anyway, which I had told the office. Whole pole climbing thing. They are using standard basic service with TW. plus phone and internet as well. In case some don't know this, if you have a HD tv with a HD tuner and scan channels they come in at least for the standard basic package so again no need for receiver. All the SD channels they are supposed to have with there local HD stuff. They are very happy now. Money savings for the folks, TW loss. One remote and so on. Thanks again.

There must be part of the story that's missing, because it is certainly possible to swap a SD box for an HD box without having a tech visit.

Personally, I've done it twice at a TWC office.  No tech visit, just swap and go.  Took about 3 minutes.

Well I would agree, with the you can swap it why do you think I went to the store. And I called first to make sure it was not just a payment center. Before I went. If you have any reason why this would happen please feel free to say so even if you make it up it can't be this screwed up. That's my point. I called my mom today to ask how it was going. She told me she canceled the appointment and that they really wanted her to keep it. Bottom line is she told them not to come over. Then they offered to pick up the old equipment also for a fee. She will drop it off. Funny also as there where two TW trucks in the apartment lot. What a joke. Only thing I can guess is she/mom told me that the TV basic standard was included in the rent. The internet and phone was a separate bill NOW. Still no reason for a service call but that is just my option. Thanks for listening. I told her to wait for her first bill then call and fix what is screwed up.

I have swapped boxes before.  A few years ago when I was living with my parents I had a SD box with DVR, bought an HDTV, so I swapped out the SD box for an HD box right at Mayfair Mall.  I simply took it home, hooked it up, had to call Customer service so they could activate, took about 30 minutes, but that is because I had them call me back rather than wait on hold.

That is why I love Tivo so much, sure gotta have the cable card and the tuning adaptor, but it just feels like more freedom holding that Tivo remote knowing their is no charge for it!
