Ch. 58-4 & 58-5 Future channels disable my HDTV

As of 05/29/2009 The recently added channels 58-4 and 58-5 (Future) are causing my HDTV to become disabled anytime those channels are accessed.

I have a 2009 Toshiba HDTV.

The similar channel 49 future channels don't cause a problem, because they have a video signal. (Color bars)

The 58-4 and 58-5 channels don't have a video signal at this time, so my TV apparently becomes confused by getting a signal, without video and goes to a blank screen and becomes unresponsive to channel tuning. The channel display shows that another channel is selected, but it is actually stuck on 58-4 or 58-5. Powering it off and on again does not cure it.

I tried setting the two channels to be skipped in the channel set up, but in the channel set up, the channel selected is also tuned at the same time so it can be seen. As soon as I select the channel to skip, the TV becomes unresponsive.

The only cure is to select a different input source (wait a little longer than normal for it to change) and then go back to the antenna source by typing in a channel number, other than 58-4 or 58-5.

On my Zenith/LG digital tuners, the channels do not tune at all, and show "No signal".

On my Dish CECB the channels are tuned and show a signal strength along with "No service" as the program title.

Pretty soon the Hi-Def on 58-1 will really look like crap. I can't wait. MORE SUBCHANNELS?
Maybe they can just change 58-1 to widescreen 480i, it might look better. :bang:
Why bother with HD anymore?

I actually saw that 49-5, 49-6 and 49-7 were added as future channels.  Could it be possible that they move WMLW and This in SD to the 49 channel tier and have 58-1 in HD similar to 10-1?

Well....based on the first post in this thread that doesn't appear to be happening now does it? They just added two more sub-channels to 58-1 making a total of 5. It would seem that some converter boxes & tv's pick up these channels on a re-scan, but since there's no video/audio associated with them yet some skip over them. Just a matter of time when HD doesn't mean anything on 58-1. The lower the bitrate goes (to make room for more subchannels) the worse the picture looks on 58-1.

WDJT - KNOCK IT OFF - PLEASE!
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!

I'm done now and off the soapbox.

There are now other future channels similar to 58-4 and 58-5 without any video or audio.
Example 41-2 thru 41-7 and 63-2 thru 63-7.

None of those channels have a negative effect on my Toshiba HDTV tuner like 58-4 and 58-5.

On a CECB that does tune those future channels, 58-4 and 58-5 differ in that the display shows "Off Air" and then "No Service".  All the other future channels show "No Service" without first showing "Off Air" on the display.

Something 58-4 and 58-5 have in their stream is causing the problem, also reported by others.

My Toshiba REGZA HDTV also had tuner issues when channel 49 (or maybe it was 41) was playing around some months ago.  The tuner wouldn't u/d scroll past that channel from either direction.  A call to Toshiba was met with deaf ears.  It seems OK with the blank sub-channels on 58 though.  Fabulous pic with OTA

The problem may depend on the model. Mine is ZV650U.

If thats the case, why the long wait?  Why can't they move them over now?
