Nine New Stations Make DTV Transition

Over-the-Air DTV Signals in Markets that Include 92% of TV Homes

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Association of Broadcasters announced today that nine more television stations have begun transmitting a digital signal.

Of the nine new DTV stations, five are the first in their market on air with DTV (marked with a *).

The nine new DTV stations are:
KYMA* Yuma, AZ (market No. 172) - A Sunbelt - owned NBC affiliate
KAAL Rochester, MN (market No. 152) - A Hubbard - owned ABC affiliate
WHEC* Rochester, NY (market No. 77) - A Hubbard - owned NBC affiliate
KRGV* Weslaco, TX (market No. 97) - A singly - owned ABC affiliate
WUNJ* Wilmington, NC (market No. 144) - A PBS member station
WVPY Front Royal, VA (market No. 8) - A PBS member station
WVUT* Vincennes, IN (market No. 146) - A PBS member station
KHWB Houston, TX (market No. 11) - A Tribune - owned WB affiliate
WAFF Huntsville, AL (market No. 83) - A Raycom - owned NBC affiliate

This brings to 518 the number of stations broadcasting in digital. DTV signals are now being transmitted in 153 markets that include 91.90% of U.S. TV households. In addition, 46% of U.S. TV households are in markets where broadcasters are delivering four or more DTV signals.
