We've had a Hitatchi 55" lcd projection hdtv for a little over 2 years now. I'm noticing a blue-ish tint (almost glare-like) in the center area of the screen (kind of blotched). What would cause this? Any fixes?

From my own experience:
-I had a 70" Hitachi LCD Projection HDTV for over 3 years and after a few sky (all blue) scenes and so on(white snow scenes, etc.), I noticed a yellow ring in the middle of the screen.
The tech came out and first replaced the lamp, that did no good, the ring stayed.
Then the tech came out, took the monster into the shop, replaced the optical block (was supposed to be about $1200 at the time, but I had an ext. warranty).
The replacement block or "light engine" meant I no longer had a ring, but bluish-green wide splattering (like paint) in the middle of the screen, causing inaccurate colours and such.
The third time, I got it back, it was still worse, then another tech came on and destroyed the reflecting mirror, so that screwed up the whole set inside.
The result?
I ended up getting a new set of my choosing, so I picked a Samsung LED DLP and couldn't be happier (the ext. warranty covered a new similar replacement set).

This could happen to you, maybe not, but after 3 tries on fixing the Hitachi LCD RPTV set, like baseball...the set was "out" (of my house).

Is it a projection or LCD? Do you smoke or have you have any home remodeling projects recently? Might need calibration if projection or dirty mirrors. Blotch in the middle if it's LCD not making sense to me. Have you used any weird\unique cleaners on the screen? Anymore info could help.:D

Sorry for not being clearer before; it's a rear projection LCD (not flat panel). And no, I don't smoke and there aren't any home remodelings/construction that's been done recently either. I'm not sure if it's still under warranty, but we got it from American, so maybe I'll give them a call.

The extended warranty gave me the flexibility to get the bulb and optical block replaced, for no charge, including it being taken out of the house for work.
While your experience may vary from mine, many Hitachi LCD RPTVs went bad from what I have read in avsforums like yours (and mine) did, so it is all a matter of time before any of these sets fail.
-No wonder why Hitachi stopped making these and went straight to flat panel sets.;)

Hope you can get your set repaired or fixed enough to make the picture at least tolerable.
My example could be yours or a variant of that...good luck!
