Sound Issues on 58-1

I get 58-1 over-the-air (OTA), and the sound level difference favoring commercials over programming is a royal pain.  Today, I was watching "Sunday Morning", and I had to mute all the commercials, as they were painfully loud vs. the programming.  I thought there once were FCC regulations, but the local CBS affiliate is making it difficult to watch their channel.  Anyone else having the same experience?

When I watch Price is Right on EITHER TWC's HD feed (505) or the standard CBS-58 feed (5) the sound would fluctuate like crazy.  Not so much on the commercials but on the main broadcast, yes.

The sound difference is terrible.  I often end up muting the commercials, also.  Nothing like being blasted out of your chair during the breaks.

There are regulations that limit how much louder the commercials can be compared to the program.  I think what happens is that regular programming is quieter, and the commercials are still within OK limits.

I agree Scott,

Do you have cable, dish, U-verse, or just OTA TV?  In any case, I use the sound stabilizer on both my TV and cable box and it works well except on CBS-58.  This issue applies to both the HD and SD feeds.  Like I said before, the broadcast of Price is Right is at times unwatchable because of the sound fluctuation.  However, other users are reporting this same type of issue on different problems.  Therefore we know that it is a CBS issue.

I am hoping that this is somehow related to the June 12th all digital transition period. If so, we will know what it is and come June 13th if the issue has been resolved.  When CBS did their change-over, my theory is that something got out of whack with their audio transmission.  For those of you with the audio problems on CBS, how long have you had this issue?

I have Dish Network, but I get all my local programing OTA.

I don't want to use any kind of normalizer.  While it would be great for taming commercials, but it also gets applied to actual programming, robbing it of it's dynamic range.

We've got a month to find out.  It would be great if that would solve the problem, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Until then, commercials will get muted.
