Bluto

I've always said that the first newscast to go HD would get my eyes.  That'll be the case here, even though TMJ was probably third - behind Fox6 and WISN - on my list of local newscasts yesterday.

If/when others go HD, I'll consider switching back.

I'll watch a couple of newscasts, just to see how it looks... but I have very little respect for the style in which TMJ reports the news, so I definitely won't switch.

Agreed.  I will check out a couple of newscasts as well just to see how it looks.  But, until TMJ4 changes their style of reporting the "news", I will continue to watch Channel 12.  Hopefully, now that one station has made the jump the others will follow suit.

Sorry, I am in the minority here!  I watch news almost only for the weather.  I don't care to see someone's prediction, I want to see the maps and many times with the sound off.  Channel 12 has the best weather for us who really only want to "see" the weather and figure out what it will be like on the way home from work, not "hear" someones mistaken opinion about what it's like outside at this moment.

UGH!

You're one of those.

I'll still be surfing by the minute between 10:00 and 10:20 PM.  When TMJ starts up the sappy music, it's time to move on.  When Mercure comes on, I'm gone.

By the way, regarding makeup, I was watching that show on 10 with the local pundits in HD, and when Joel McNally came up on screen, my son said "What happened to him?"

Can someone please explain why they hate the reporting on TMJ4 so much??

Maybe I'm tone deaf, but I cannot tell the difference between the reporting (quality wise) on any of the local stations' news...

WITI6fan

In my opinion, WTMJ's Investigative team is the root of the "hate". John Mercure (who's ego can only be measured by comparing it to the transmission tower outside) and his "investigations" on ratings-boosters like "Car wash attendants stealing the loose change you leave in the cupholder" and what seems to be a series that should be called "people making more money than me", Courtny Gerrish's "Dirty Dining" and "Speedbusters" (which adds absolutely no value to the newscast) are the typical "investigative journalist/journalism" pieces that are parodied in the media (Steve Carell's line in Bruce Almighty: "Your Children could be in dire jeopardy, find out more tonight." comes to mind).

Speaking of that, anyone else miss the franchise opens (Speedbusters, Dirty Dining, I-Team)? :D

So far I'm, loving the HD thing!  The High Def Viper Radar is cool as hell.  TO be Honest I was a Channel 4 watcher any way. I just can't stand watching Fox 6. ;)

This.

Another example: the reporting on the case of Daniel Acker, they couldn't just report it straight, they had to come up with a catchy slogan for it ("Predator at the Pool") that they repeated ad nauseum.

Dan the Man

Fox6 in the AM during the week. I like the crew, but it basically repeats after the first 30 minutes. Nicole K. is a babe to watch and I like Rob H.'s weather. Some of the stuff they cover is crap. Too much Gus Tours (Gus is a good guy though but spends too much time covering fluff pieces).

TMJ4 on the weekends in the AM. I like the Sat. morning brunch segments and again Melissa M. is another cutie. I met her once via a mutual acquaintance and she's nice in person as well. Her and Fish make a great pair and Fish is great in front of the camera. They both have a good sense of humor and work well together.

TMJ4 at 10:00 PM. I can't stand Carol M. - she hams it up too much and ALWAYS seems to have to have the last word. I hate that. The "investigative reporting" on TMJ4 is all a bunch of BS (like all those mentioned by WITI6fan). Courtney is another babe that's easy to watch however. They should dump that BS stuff and put in something more worthwhile.

I never watch 12 or 58 unless 4 is preempted at night by something else.

That's my story.

Doesn't matter to me.  Channel 4 has gone down the tubes for years.  Making it look nice doesn't change the content.  It's like lipstick on a pig (I think I've heard that expression somewhere before) :)

Some of these are redundant with other posts:

1.  "You're in danger"
2.  "Your kids are in danger"
3.  "The weather is dangerous"
4.  "If you're not dizzy or distracted yet, check out this zoom and pan maneuver"
5.  "This dramatic music helps you feel the significance of our reporting, doesn't it?"

I could go on, but I am sure you're getting bored.  And I know none of this is strictly limited to 4, they just seem the most desperate.  I realize that they feel it is necessary to cling to their chunk of a declining demographic who might still be watching the ads that pay for it all, so I try not to get too disappointed.  I just wonder how much longer until we get to the tipping point.

Funny....cuz according to the ratings from the February sweeps, Ch. 4 was #1 at 10...
