The SDV and other channel problems bring up a question I have that dicktwi reminded me of.  Wasn't their some sort of cable competition bill at the end of 2007 going through the state senate and assembly?  From what I understanding, Time Warner and AT&T and Charter  have to pay franchising fees to every town they are in, like Milwaukee, Madison, Whitefish Bay, and Port Washington.  The bill would change that to one fee through the state instead, making it easier for cable companies to be everywhere in the state.  Could you imagine how nice that would be to have a choice between TWC, Charter, and then let Cox Media come in, Comcast, plus AT&T, Verizon, and on top of that Dish Network and Direct TV.  Quality would rise and customer service would to.  How do we find out how to ressurect this bill?

The bill went though and nothing has really changed except service has gotten worse because they are no longer held to the local standards we had before.  If you want to read the bill as it was enacted it can be found here http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2007/data/acts/07Act42.pdf.
