Quote from: russj;51645:confused: The active button on my HR23 always takes me to the SD version of the channel that I select. I have the prefs. set to filter out the SD channels but get them anyway when using the active button. Am I doing something wrong, or is there no way to get 58 HD on the HR23? My R20 box works fine using the active button, but will only hold 58HD durring a sporting event. all other programs will not come in.

I'd be interested knowing how this works as well. I can't seem to get anything but local 58 in SD. I need to watch my PGA in HD but it's not available in HD here?

As I remember:
Click the active button on the remote and wait for the channels to refresh.
(Works from the Sports Mix channed 205 as well)
If a CBS show which is in HD is listed click on it and it will tune to that channel (58) in HD.
Then click your arrow up button on the remote to bring up the Quicktune menu.
Select the green button to save this channel.

Now anytime you want to watch CBS 58 use the Quicktune to select and your program will be in HD! :)

I tried that, but the Active Channel only lists the top 5 programs and I don't think it shows whether they are in HD or not, unless I am not reading it correctly...

Haven't tried the Sports mix channel yet, but thanks for the tip..

Try it at nite when you know there is a HD program on CBS. Then it will be listed in the top 5.

Yeah it doesn't say if the program is in HD or not but if show is in HD that's what you'll get by selecting it from the Active channel.  I now have 58HD on all 3 of my HDDVR's on quicktune.

Not sure if this is true. I know for a fact that CBS televises PGA tour in HD. This past Sunday it was listed in the Active Channel list, but when I selected it all I got was local 58 in SD. Tried this with other programs as well and all I ever get is local 58 SD.

Also, how are you getting the local 58 in HD when they do not have a contract with DTV? Seems like we are getting two different feeds here. i live in Racine FWIW.

That's the whole reason we are using the Active button to get Channel 58 in HD, because it's not officially offered yet.  Consider it a "work around" ;)

Not all PGA Golf is in HD in CBS.  The Masters was and I used the Active button to watch it on Channel 58 HD.  I now have it on Quicktune on all 3 of my HDTV's so I don't have to use Active anymore.

I get the quicktune thing, but unless the program is in HD there's no reason to use it correct? I'll have to trial and error a bit to figure this out, but CBS doesn't seem to be broadcasting much of anything in HD if this is the case. Thanks for the input though...

So let me get this right. Tonight at 8PM the CBS 58 in Milwaukee is broadcasting Criminal Minds in HD. So if I select the active button and find Criminal minds on the list it will bring me to the HD version? isn't the list only for the top 5 National Broadcasts? What if it isn't in the top 5? Wait for another program on CBS 58 that is broadcasting in HD and try again? :huh?:

Also, I'm pretty sure all of the PGA on CBS is in HD. This weeks tournament will be and I'm pretty sure last week was as well.

vegasvic

You're right, if the program isn't in HD then no reason to use it.

I'm not sure about PGA golf.

A program has to be in the top 5 (according to DirecTV) for it to appear on the Active list.  They have the top 5 by region (Central), National, Sports and Movies (I think).

Some of the shows that appear on their top 5 don't make sense so I don't know if Criminal Minds will be on it.  But once you find a CBS show that's in HD on the list you can select it, add it via Quicktune and then never have to worry about the Active button again :)

I don't watch much on CBS, I know Survivor on Thursday is usually top 5 as well as CSI.  So is 60 minutes on Sundays usually.

Within the last month I needed to replace my HD DVR.  I got the exact same model sent to me by Direct TV (the 22).  On my old DVR, I could get the hi def feed from 58 by going through either the Sports Mix channel or by using the Active button.  Since I got my new DVR, neither of those methods work.  I have two friends who have never been able to access the HD feeds either way, so there must be something with the access card or with the receive itself.

Maybe this question has been asked before, but when CBS58 Milwaukee turns off its analogue signal, it will transmit only digital, right?
Digital and HDTV aren't the same, but HDTV requires a digital signal, so when CBS airs a HDTV signal, will CBS58 block it and send out a standard def digital signal instead to Directv (and Dishnetwork) subscribers?:huh?:

I have an HR23 DVR and using the active button to get CBSHD (channel 58) doesn't work at all. All it will give me is the SD version. I also have a H21 receiver and using the active button on that one works. It tunes to the HD version of channel 58 every time. I think that there must be something different in the software between the two receivers that makes that happen. Not only will the active button on the HR23 not give me the HD version of channel  58, it will not give me the HD version of any channel I select. I think that this is something that D needs to fix.

The presence/absence of HDTV programming is irrelevant.

DirecTV will have to negotiate carriage of WDJT-DT with Weigel. If they don't manage to get the negotiations done by June 13, WDJT will again no longer be available to DirecTV customers.

yet currently we can pick up CH58 HD using various trick plays. That leads me to believe that we get CH58 HD come June 13th
