Lamp blew out - and none available locally???

Well the unthinkable happened Friday night, my Sony's lamp popped and that's all she wrote. So I figure I can get one at Best Buy or maybe Flanners and I will be all set. Well WTF - NO one carries these in stock. :bang: Flanners says they usually try to, but they sell out fast. Best Buy doesn't stock them and American (the 1=800 parts line in India) says something like "Sony doesn't want retailers selling them in the stores, you can't find them anywhere", or some crap like that.

So, does anyone know where I can get a lamp locally? Does anyone have these in stock? I cannot believe that no one sells these in town. I'll admit I didn't call around too much, but after making 3-4 calls I thought I would "poll the audience".

Lamp is a Sony XL-5200 for a KDS-60A2000.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I was hoping to get a lamp TODAY, since it's such a lovely day outside. There are tons of places on the internet that sell them but I won't get it until Tuesday at the earliest, later if I want to spend less.

At least your lamp explosion was just a little pop. Look at what happened with a Sony 4K digital projector while I was on a projection shift at the Majestic... I heard that thud all the way across the booth. Most of the glass you see there is the shattered reflector.

That looks like it could have injured somebody....

Well I had to come up with plan B since this isn't going to get fixed today........

At least after I get the new lamp I'll have picture in picture capability.

I think you're going to be stuck buying one via the itnernet.

As a side note, you may be able to save some money if you only buy the bulb instead of the whole housing.  In the case of my TV, I was able to find just the replacement lamp at less than half the cost of the entire assembly.  I'm not sure if the Sony's are the same way, and you may have to do the swap out yourself, but the savings can be worth it.  Just make sure it's the exact same bulb and not a generic version.

Nah it's pretty safe. The projectors are designed to contain such an explosion, and it did its job perfectly. (However I am still slightly nervous every time it takes more than 1 strike to get a bulb going.)

Ugh now I have that sinking feeling that mine will blow out any day now. I did swap it out before the first one completely died so I have a spare although it should be close to end of life as well. The one good thing is, you will be shocked at how bright things are again. They get dimmer and dimmer as time goes on..

I ordered a lamp oe Sunday via the web. It should be here by Wednesday. Then I can take down the Kentucky home theater system.

Wow, watching shows on the old tube set really sucks, plus it hurts my eyes. I can hardly wait to get the Sony working again. :D
