Saturday weather on TMJ4

I tuned in to the gymnastics coverage on NBC, just to see what WTMJ would do with their new equipment.

On the good note, their new equipment allows them to stay in HD and supply the weather. Definite improvement there.

However, there are major problems yet to be fixed...

1) Is it seriously necessary to have a scroller that large? I mean, the thing is gigantic.
2) Is it necessary to leave it up all the time? If you aren't scrolling something on it, it just takes up space.
3) Is it really necessary to scroll every 30 seconds? I mean, come on, people. It's snowing. I can TELL it's snowing, you know how? I can LOOK OUT A DANG WINDOW!!! I don't need to be told every 30 seconds on my TV that it's snowing! Put it up every 5 minutes, that's fine (though less would be better still) but 30 seconds? Come on. If I want THAT frequent of a weather update, I'll flip to 4.2.

Yeesh. Now that I think about it, I'm NOT too sure that this is an improvement after all.

And as a follow-up observation... at least 'squeeze-mode' would have actually shown most of the (standard def 4:3) picture, even if it were the size of a postage stamp.

Now, the scroller is stomping all over the lower part of the broadcast, including all of the chyrons. Makes it really frustrating to watch a sporting even when important stats and results are shown in that lower portion of the screen.

Better, guys and gals at TMJ. (They've now set it to compress the image, so that the graphics aren't stomped on).

Now, just make the scroller smaller... and set it only to scroll every 5 minutes or so... and it'll be fine.

Who ever is in charge of making up these gigantic graphics for tmj should be fired.

Some day the right people in that organization will realize that as soon as there is any weather news at all ... Many people immediately turn off their station regardless of what programming they are running simply to avoid being treated like a complete morons and blasted in the face with cry wolf or irrelevant information.  

They have a 4.2 channel they should crawl that stupid thing for 5 seconds right after commercials to let people know to tune to the other "information" channel instead of destroying the reason I tuned into your pathetic channel to begin with.:bang:

I hope all 12 people who are probably in that group watched WTMJ today! It probably would have taken the group's director a whole SEVEN MINUTES to call everyone!

I'm thinking of signing up fake businesses for closings and phoning in things like "Megacorp - No Transportation Provided" or "Lyl Tikes Day Care - Employee Outing Canceled" and seeing how many make it to air.
