Is anyone else experiencing very slow speeds from RR? For 2 days now my wife has been complaining and I noticed it myself last night with just general web surfing. She is going to reboot the modem later but things are very slow for us.

I've had no issues either...reboot your modem.

When the temperature is so low, the internets' tubes get frozen and data moves slowly.

Wrap your cable modem in a heating pad .. that should help a bit.

Are still RR's DNS server? It has been known to slow things down once awhile.

It should have been the opposite. It's approaching the temperature of super conductivity. :)

My RR and phone were completely out this morning in Kenosha.

If you there really is a problem with TWC-RR, you can call them and they will lie to you that there is no problem with their system at all.

Any other issues?  Are you Anti-Virus Definitions up to date?  Do you run or have Windows Updates automatically downloaded and up to date?  Any evidence of malware or spyware?  I would get your latest AV definitions if you aren't up to date and scan your computer for Viruses.  I also use a great On-Line Scanner, Trend Micro's House call in addition to my AV program to keep my system malware free.  You should do a Housecall Scan, keep running it until your system is clean or it can't get rid of anything else.  (It will take about 45-90 minutes for the first time.)  About 20 mins to 40 minutes on subsequent times depending on what it finds and the speed of your Internet Connection, but it's worth it:

It works in IE and Firefox:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

When done, close out of everything, unplug your modem for 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait 2 minutes, than reboot your machine.

If the problem persists, call Time Warner.

Did this just start happening?

After 7 days speeds are now back to normal. While I still sing the praises of TWC's internet. Getting support and resolution when you DO have an issue is nothing short of a slow walk through hell.

When I finally called them I had narrowed the issue down to basically the fact that we had zero upload speed. To the tune of like 3k. This made everything pretty fail. This had happened before and went away on its own with one or two modem reboots. We had rebooted the modem about 20 times during the course of a few days.

First I talked to the online support people. What a joke. They cannot even tell what speed tier your account is in much less provide any help other than having you do the same online speed tests you have done 100 times.  I am explaining the problem and lack of any and all upload speed and after doing speed test after speed test they ask what OS I am using. I explain we have OS X, Vista, Windows 2003, etc in the house all having the same issues. The guy fires off some scripted answer to delete my cookies in IE.....

On the phone things go a little better but not much. For the first time I actually did what they asked me to do. I powered off the modem, powered it back on. Then they start asking about a router and I am trying to explain that I use IPCop and they keep telling me about a linksys. I do not use a Linksys I tell them over and over. I even did the direct PC to modem test even though I shutter to think about what can happen to you after being directly connected for even a minute to their service. No joy. More speed tests. "Oh you need to use OUR speed test site" ok, I used what your previous people told me to use and they all net the SAME results, but ok... No joy.

At this point I was just so tired of it I said you know what, maybe its the modem. I have had this modem for 6+ years, held onto it for so long because it "worked". So I said I will just go in and get it replaced. Yeah you see where this is going.....

We decided to run to Mayfair, no one would answer the phone at the Racine office so I did not know if they were open. We get to the Mayfair location and there is 20 or so people in there and I walk right in and stand at the counter waiting. After 10 mins one of the guys says "Did you check in?" Say what? What do you mean check in? Apparently there is a podium which was unmanned (or womaned) in this case so we didn't even notice it. So that time was wasted, I go "check in" and say i am just here for a modem swap. She informs me I am in the queue and I am welcome to enjoy the lounge and watch the basketball game in HD. Gee, thanks...

I sat for over 1 hour...  3 kids, wife in tow, thank god she took them all to some other stores or it would have been hell in the store although maybe I should have kept them in there but that would not have been fair to them :)

New modem! Go home, hook up, same problem.......  next day same problem. Now all is well. It is a miracle. Between the support calls, travel times, wait times, I figure 7+ hours spent on nothing. A TWC anomoly...

That sounds like a good story....for the Better Business Bureau!  You should file an on-line complaint!

For some reasons, I never had any problem with TW tech support. About six months ago, I noticed my download speed was dropping. I called them on a Saturday and they sent a tech out on Sunday (which surprised me). The problem was that my modem was over heating.

I have called them a handful of times in the past 8 years and all my technical problems were solved relatively quick. All I have is RR, not even a cable subscriber. Go figure. :)
