Update: FSWisconsin mum on HD commitment to Brewers broadcasts

Jeff Richgels  —  2/22/2009 11:25 am

Madison-area fans of the Milwaukee Brewers will get to see 151 regular season games and three spring training contests on Fox Sports Wisconsin this year, but they may not all be in high definition as the company promised last year.

The network, which previously was known as Fox Sports Net Wisconsin or FSN Wisconsin, announced its 2009 carriage schedule for the Brewers in a statement that promised an increased number of games to be televised in HD but offered no specifics.

Last year, Fox announced that all of its games on its regional sports networks would be in HD in 2009.

FSWisconsin spokeswoman Becky Ross said in an e-mail to The Capital Times that "We are still working on finalizing the HD schedule for the 2009 baseball season," indicating that FSWisconsin might not meet its promise of last year.

Ross promised to follow up when more details were available.

In 2008, FSWisconsin televised about 65 of its 135 Brewers games broadcasts in HD.

Hopefully they keep their promise:

It's not like HD is something new.  It's been around a long time now.  No excuse not to have all games in HD.

I want to know what's up with this. The cameras go in the park, the truck parks in the back, and it pretty much stays that way, AFAIK. It's not like equipment is swapped out constantly.

One excuse they had was not enough equipment last year.  But it was very odd when just one game of a series would be in HD.  Why just one?  Or how about when our opponent got a game in HD (on their FSN channel) and we didn't. Strange indeed.  Maybe there is resistance because they think people will stay home if all home games are in HD.  That was the same line of reasoning why no home games used to be broadcast at all.
