It seems like every time I tune in to 10.1 it is never in HD or widescreen.  Has anyone else noticed this?  I find it disappointing.

If you're watching the D* feed it's terrible. All we get is a postage stamp picture.

I have to switch to OTA to make the top and bottom bars disappear.

It is indeed very disappointing, PBS WAS the leader in the digital technology conversion. It seems they went far enough to get digital going and then said that's enough.

Programming content is can be outstanding, let's have HD dwhen it's supposed to be.

It's sad...

Back in 1999 when I got my first HDTV, MPTV was the only local source for HD 24/7.  Even though it was a demo reel, (played over and over again) with the occasional exception of a live event like the circus parade or the political conventions, it still looked as if they were the only HD visionaries in the market. Years later, 36-1 became the place for the most HD on local TV.  And they further solidified their spot as the HD guys.

Now it sems like their digital signals have become nothing more than the vehicle for MPTV to stream as many channels as they possibly can into Milwaukee's airwaves..and screw the HD.

For MPTV to move from a quality position to a quantity position is both surprising and disappointing. :OnAir:

Not only to fill the airwaves with multiple channels, a portion of them don't even carry programming.

Audio streams of Classical, Jazz and I don't even remember what else, may even be techno pop {fart}

I have been very disappointed in what MPTV did to 36.

I mean not all tuners/TVs can zoom, so we are forced to watch a letterboxed picture inside a pillarbox - how moronic.

You think they could at least send it out as EDTV 704x480 widescreen.

So I see in the program guide: 10.1 : Celtic Woman Holiday Special [HD]. So I tune in and see the program in widescreen, but with black bars top and bottom, and MPTV 10.1 SIDEBARS!!!!

I honestly have no idea WHAT they're thinking these days. :huh?:

AND! Pillar bars outside of the MPTV Sidebars on my display. I've tried zooming, the PQ degrades and then what's the point of watching it. :huh?:

Heard an ad for a Chet Atkins special tonight in HD on Channel 10.1. Can't wait to see what they do to that!

I asked this when it first started happening and "jayflap" responded, who I think might work for MPTV.

I really love watching channel 10 on directv.  As this is typically a 1080i 16:9 program, turned into 4:3 with black bars on the top and bottom, turned into 16:9 with MPTV sidebars with the black bars on the top and the bottom, then turned into 4:3 by directv with more black bars on the top and the bottom!  By the time all that is done it's only using 25% of the pixels on the screen.

Luckily my main TV has OTA, I haven't bothered running the antenna to the other one yet.
