QuoteHow do I find the test channels? Where is "Coming Soon"?

If your division has Navigator and has SDV (Switched Digital Video) enabled, TWC has been using several "test channels" that will give you a preview of what they are working on before officially putting them in the guide.  This means adding them to the time grid with designated channel numbers. The test channel ranges begin approximately in the 1830's.  To find them:

Start with the last known channel in the time-grid that is in the 1800's  (It will be one of the Adult On Demand Stations).  Tune to it and than hit the Channel up arrow button.  A list of channels that they are "working on for launch" will show a picture of the channel and sometimes a video feed.  If the video feed is active for the new "coming soon" channel,  you can manually tune to it:

There are three "Coming Soon" channels in this "test mode" 1800 range: (with video feeds currently turned on.)

Chiller (SD)

Bravo (HD)

CNBC (HD)

There temporary locations are 1836, 1837, and 1838.  If they are activated, you can manually tune to them by punching in the numbers or using the process I described above.  If the channels show video, you can find them doing program searches.  I recorded something on Chiller but did not play it back yet.  However, the record light and Show List showed that it did record.  The only thing that you can't do with these channels just yet, is find them in the time grid.  The channel numbers will be DIFFERENT for the official status in the grid.  Chiller will be on the Digital Tier (after channel 100)  Bravo and CNBC HD will be on the HD tier in the 500's.

If the test channels aren't coming in for you, try rebooting your box.  But remember these stations are still temporary so maybe they haven't pinged the boxes with the test channel data yet.  A point is that after these stations are added, you can use the "New Channel Test Mode" above to see what else is coming.

No word from TWC-Milwaukee on an exact launch date for the channels to be officially added to the guide, but estimates range from sometime between January 18-January 28th based on what I have heard from other divisions.

Can someone link to Tim's article?  Thanks!

PS.  According to TWC Wisconsin's website the next HD channels that they are talking about are:

Weather HD, Planet Green HD, ESPNU HD, and MLB Network HD,  (They say they won't be viewable with a cable card.  But I don't think they would be talking about them if they weren't next in line.)

More New Channel Negotiations are also listed and include:

Familia, Inspiration Life, Gospel Music, Nick Too, Ovation.

Do the 1830's new channel's test to see what comes up in the next 1-3 weeks or so.

I'm not sure if this was answered or not, but I tried recording the Chiller SD channel when it was in test mode (when it was available to view it) and it worked.

-I can hardly wait for the Weather HD channel to come up.:)

-Then I will be completely rid of watching ANY analogue channels ever again.
(Unless, of course, TWC messes with the SDV again, making it inaccessable:bang:).

Yea GP,

I forgot to post back, but I also recorded a show when Chiller was in test mode and it worked fine.  By the time I got back to the board to tell you guys about it, the channel became official on Channel 169.

A bit of advice for everyone that you can take or toss.  But my personal recommendation is DON'T MENTION MY STEPS ABOVE ON HOW TO VIEW THE 1830'S SERIES TEST CHANNELS IF YOU CALL TWC FOR QUESTIONS OR SUPPORT.  I know that sometimes you will see those channels in program searches, but knowing those dolt CSR's, they will say, "Well, you're not supposed to have those channels in the 1830's." Word might get back to the field techs, and they might disable SDV/test mode so we won't be able to view test mode video streams to see what's coming next.

I think all of us would like them to keep those test channels active, so that when they come out and especially when video is added to them, we can expect their official launch in the guide within a week.  I just thought it would be a good idea to mention this.

So, you think TW does not monitor these forums?  Several times now, someone has complained about a guide name change or other issue and it was fixed the next day...

And GP, TWC HD is really nice... but there is no 'local on the 8's'.  It must be something TWC is working on.

I'm glad to see Milw area is getting switched digital up and running.  I understand your frustrations, but realize much of what TW or any cable op in the country does is all new technology.  Since most of this is not off-the-shelf hardware or code, there will be growing pains.  Add the fact that unlike high speed data's deployment, switched video  really can't be rolled out by area too effectively --- as customers do talk to each other.  Therefore this must be quite an undertaking to pull off with any level of success.

TWC/the other providers need to add the HD STAR system (currently unnamed) to the headend in order for local on the 8s on the HD channel.  It's being beta tested in NYC and is still a little buggy.  You can see screenshots and videos here: http://www.taiganet.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1505&st=0&.

TWC NYC will be the list to go from for what is missing from our local TWC system, but I think BIO HD is also available, unless I missed it on the NYC listing.
-Looks like the HD channel additions have stopped here for awhile, though the Weather HD and Planet Green HD channels, among others still posted on the "new" TWC website still remain as future additions.:huh?:

More testing going on in the 1800's with existing channels...

1831 - Food HD
1837 - WCGV HD
1838 - Wisconsin Eye
1839 - CSPAN2
1840 - Showtime Next
1841 - Showtime Family
1842 - Showtime Women
1843 - ESPN Classic
1844 - Fox Business

I hope this means some new additions on the horizon

Interesting..

According to the TWC website we should be expecting a few new hd channels in March.

http://www.timewarnercable.com/Wisconsin/learn/programming/legalnotices/legalnoticeSE.html

In addition, from time to time we make certain changes in the services that we offer in order to better serve our customers. The following changes are planned:
On 3/16, WPXE HD joins the HD lineup on 563. On 3/17, MLB HD joins the HD lineup on 583 (just in time for MLB season)

The new services listed below cannot be accessed on CableCARD-equipped Unidirectional Digital Cable Products purchased at retail without additional, two-way capable equipment:
Retro Plex, Weather HD, Planet Green HD, ESPNU HD, MLB Network HD,  Familia, Inspiration Life, Gospel Music, Nick Too, Ovation.

All i need now is NBATV HD & VH1 HD and i'll be set.
