Still no NFL Network on TWC?

Also, NFL Network is owned by the NFL.

MLB Network is majority owned by MLB but Comcast, Directv, Time Warner, & Cox also own a stake in it.

That's mostly what I was getting at... NFL Network wants $0.75/customer, all of which goes directly back to the NFL (not to mention other revenue), and is requiring that it be in the basic tier.

MLB Network is at $0.25/customer, and is partially owned by the cable companies, so a portion of that (and other revenues) go back to the cable companies themselves.

Sorry to jump in here but...

LoadStar, I've replied to your PM a couple of times and not heard back from you? Is there a problem with the software on the board, or did I upset you somehow?  :)

Sorry. It's the default config on the board, apparently - PM notifications (pop-up message/email) is turned off. :)

I still love the content offered by the NFL Network, but...

The NFL is becoming less and less a sport of the fans.  I think most pro sports are going this way, but the NFL is leading the pack.  The NFL is kind of following the same model Myspace.com did.  Myspace realized there was a lot of potential to sell out to companies for marketing purposes.  They did all this stuff to make themselves more attractive to corporate sponsors, but became less and less desirable to the end user.  Now, there are a ton of people promoting stuff on myspace, but not really anyone to promote to (as we've seen with Facebook.com taking over the #1 slot for social networking).

The NFL is the same way.  They are pushing expansion, but it's primarily expansion of ad revenue.  The average American cannot afford to attend an NFL game, recession or not.  The new stadiums being built (New England, Indy, Dallas, New York) all assure this is the case.  The Super Bowl has not been a fan event for more than 10 years, and now they are looking to move it outside the US (along with more and more regular season games).

So, the NFL Network is going to fight to take over more and more regular season broadcasts.  They'll probably take over the wild card playoff round before too long.  Even if Time Warner does concede and pay to carry the NFL Network, they are still going to be alienating their non-pay TV fans.  I think the current business model of the NFL is only sustainable for 5-10 years on the high end.  That's a shame as it's still my favorite sport.

It looks like there might be an agreement coming with Comcast, and the writer speculates that TWC would be next:

Now that Comcast has a deal with TWC with a carriage rate of about 43 cents per sub, down from the original 70 some cents per sub,  do you think that TWC will have an agreement to carry the NFL Network before the regular football season starts?

...........The NFL network, for 6 months. Downsized my programming to save $20.00 a month. You know what?...........I don't really miss it. And that goes for the other stations I no longer receive. After analyzing my viewing habits, it came down to this.

Brewer games, 24, scrubs, family guy.............and that's about it. + I have a huge DVD collection.

In addition, if the Brewer games were  OTA, as they are in San Diego ( the only team that still does that), I would drop all of it and strictly go with the locals.

Not sure what you are driving at here? :) While that is well and dandy for you, others still want it. Now that Comcast and the NFL Network have broken bread I would hope TWC is not far behind for their subs sake.

I wonder if the dispute is the same?  NFL Network wants the station on TWC Standard Service, meaning that everyone who has standard cable would have to pay extra for the station whether they watched football or not.

TWC feels the network should be a part of their optional Sports Package on the Digital Tier, so those who don't want the network, don't have to pay for it.

I heard a rumor that putting the channel on TWC-Digital Standard was rejected.

My understanding is that Comcast already had a deal for the NFL Network on its optional Sports Digital Package, and for what had originally been an asking price of 1.10, the companies negotiated it down to 70 cents, than about 43 cents.  But don't quote me on that.

TWC still thinks the NFL Network is charging too much money for only about eight to ten live games per season.  They wanted to do an On-Demand option for the games but the NFL said no.

Did NFL Network reach a deal with Charter? How is that different than the deal with Comcast?

It sounds like NFL Network is adamant that it does not want the station to be optional for anyone.  Who do you side with here and why?

Does anyone know the specifics as to why Comcast and the NFL Network were able to make a deal, but TWC, Charter, and Cablevision have not?  Did Comcast agree to a price that TWC thinks is still too high?  If TWC were to add NFL Network to Standard Service, how much would rates increase?  If TWC were to add NFL Network to the Optional Digital Sports Package, how much would the Sports Package increase?

Is the quibble over pennies, dollars, or channel placement?  We still three huge cable providers on the sidelines so something is still not right.  Or is it the assertion that showing only eight live games a season does not give the channel enough value for carriage?  Maybe each cable operator is complaining about different things?

May this dispute not be resolved until Roger Goodall head NFL commissioner steps down?
