Not here, is this a good connection speed

Seems like it's only available on the Turbo package.

But what's the deal with the pathetic upload speeds? If they're capable of going that high with the download, can't they just cut back 5 on the dl give you that much more on the up?

They need to do something about the upload speed for EVERYONE.  Doesn't anyone upload pictures or anything???

Even with Turbo, you guys aren't even getting 1 Mps up?

Here's mine:

You have to consider that this is through an 802.11G connection.  I'm usually around 5000kb/s, so this is a definite improvement.  My upload speed is unchanged.

Download speed is up significantly. Upload speed is still nothing to write home about.

I am using a wireless connection.

In general, the DOCSIS technology is not symmetrical.  UL & DL circuit paths are shared, therefore you can't supplement UL speed by reallocating DL capacity.  The theoretical upload limit of the current deployment of DOCSIS is around 9 mb/s, according to published Cisco documentation.  DOCSIS 3.0 when/if deployed could increase speeds, depending on what new features are deployed at the time.
That ~9 mb/s capacity is shared among all users in a geographic area, as is the download capacity, which is much higher.
The 20000+ kb/s download speeds are very impressive!!

I'm not sharing any secrest here... its all on the Cisco site if anyone wants to learn more...

Too bad, it's only for the first few seconds. It works well for certain situations.

Am I the only one whom Road Runner is taking a big dump on lately? Night after night I find it unpredictably slow... connections hang forever or end up timing out, random complete outages. Anyone else?

Mark,

My roadrunner behaves like yours does - random disconnects, and it's not a new problem.  I've noticed it for the last 2 years or so, but it comes and goes in frequency.  At one point, over a year ago, I asked TWC about it and we both agreed it was time to try a new modem, as the previous one already had 3+ years on it.  Upgraded to Motorola Surfboard SB5101 (from a SB4100).  Seemed better for a few months, but went back to same old issues.  The other part of the chain is my Linksys WRT54G wireless router, which is probably 3+ years old now.  My main computer is connected via CAT-5, so it's not a wireless issue.  And when my connection goes, it affects all computers connected (which in my mind still means it could be either the router or the modem or TWC connection issues).

Somewhere along the line I found this link that is used for checking diagnostics on my Surfboard modem (obviously it will only work locally if you have a Surfboard):
http://192.168.100.1/

Lots of various s/n levels and power levels, but it was a good first start to see if anything was obviously wrong with my line.  Though the levels fluctuate slightly, after comparing them to an explanation of what the levels mean, it seems like the TWC connection is ok.  I have checked this both when things are working fine and when I have issues.

For the others reading this, what kind of suggestions do you have for diagnosing what the problem is?  At least now we know any help will affect at least 2 of us.

You mean to say that roadrunner slows down when everyone else in the neighborhood is also online? That just wouldn't happen. Just ask RR and they will tell you so.
