anyone else think it would be great if wtmj 4 put 620 AM as a second audio track for 4-2 or a channel without picture just audio.

i know 620 AM 's signal is stonger than uhf 28 or vhf 4, but this method would make it easy to get 620 in the basement... heck the packers on sunday night football could have two choices for audio.

not a demanding subchannel that would hurt HD.

Why would they?  I don't have any problem receiving WTMJ 620 in the basement. But then again WTMJ 620 AM is very strong here in Muskego by North Cape Rd (Cty OO), Hwy 45 and 36 in the Durham Hill area because their transmission towers are directly 10 miles South from that location. There transmitters are just outside the city limits of Union Grove on the northside.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. It wouldn't take up much bandwidth and would not affect the picture quality of the video channels. It would be beneficial to me because WTMJ-AM turns their power down at night from 50,000 watts to 10,000 watts and the signal is directed north from their Union Grove transmitter site. I'm only 19 miles away from the transmitter, but I'm to the southwest. TMJ's weaker nighttime signal is prone to a lot of interference, especially in the house. This would be great when the Brewers are not on TV at night (although that is rare).

Has this been done in other markets?

Thats true. AM signals have a much lower frequency than VHF or UHF suspectible more so to fading and static.  At night time most AM stations have to reduce and/or change pattern or go off the air. You could be 1 mile west of WTMJ's Radio tower at night and see it only to hear a distant AM station on 620 in its place.

If IBOC becomes a reality (Digital FM) they could simulcast the AM station on something like WKTI-FM2, and WKTI-FM3 and in case the Brewers are playing at the very sametime as the Packers the FM2 carries one sport while the other is on FM3.
