My only question is why isn't this happening in Milwaukee? Do they all want us to switch to D-TV or U-Verse. I'd do it but my apartment provides me with TWC for free.

Heh - exactly what I was going to say (including the TWC for free bit). 9 new channels added in NE Wisconsin in the last month; nada for us. What the heck gives?

Sad to say, at this point just the addition of Discovery HD would probably placate me for a bit.

I would have to agree. Something minimal like Discovery HD would do me just fine. I would like to get USA Network HD just so I could watch WWE Raw in HD. Why can other providers and markets seem to get it right but the local ineptness is allowed to perpetuate.

It maybe because  the Milwaukee Market area is a lot larger then the Green bay
Bay TWC service area  also Green Bay has a greater percentage of subscribers   that take the HD service.

Just for reference, what HD channels does TWC get in the Milwaukee Area?  I thought we had something like Discovery Theater in Milwaukee?  Isn't that the same as Discovery Channel?  As an SD owner, I only know that the HD line up starts at 500.  The last adds were History and National Geographic, that's all, right?

Channel 541 is a HD-alone channel, it is Discovery's HD "Theatre" showcase channel, sort of a combination of the other ones that serve mostly (or some) HD programming, depending on when and what from the other HD channels in Discovery's HD channel "mix".
Green Bay and its surrounding area has SDV more in place than Milwaukeeland so far, so those TWC subs there get better access to HD channel offerings, that's all.

Once TWC Milwaukee gets its SDV "act" together, I am certain more HD channels will come HD subscribers way.
So is SDV is probably much more difficult to install in a bigger metro area like Milwaukee than the Green Bay area?
Probably so.

As for other TWC locations, for example:

-Upstate NY has SDV and looking at the Rochester, Albany and other NY locations, they have many more HD channels than we do, too.

-The NYC boroughs of Queens, Bronx and S. Island got many more HD channel offerings, too, as they all have to use cable boxes, as for those that got swapped out to use the digital boxes got more HD channel access.
Therefore, SDV here was not an issue there and as populated as is the setup is in NYC, it was a better solution for HD channels, going all-digital.
New Yorkers were used to always having cable boxes, not so much other places TWC (like here), so we sort of "have" to go the SDV "route", as I understand it.

HD channels in Milwaukee:
500 - HD Movies On Demand
504 - WTMJ-DT
505 - WDJT-DT
506 - WITI-DT
508 - HBO HD
509 - Showtime HD
510 - WMVT-DT
512 - WISN-DT
518 - WVTV-DT
524 - WCGV-DT
528 - ESPN2-HD
530 - ESPN-HD
531 - FSN Wisconsin HD
532 - Universal-HD
533 - TNT-HD
534 - TBS-HD
537 - HGTV-HD
539 - History-HD
541 - HD Theater
542 - A&E HD
545 - Mojo HD
547 - HDNet
548 - HDNet Movies
549 - National Geographic HD

Admittedly, we could do worse, but when compared to all the other providers in the area, we could do much, much better.

As for the channel Milwaukee's Time Warner labels as "DISC HD," that's channel 541. "HD Theater" is the new name for a channel previously called "Discovery HD Theater." HD Theater is a separate (much inferior) channel from Discovery HD, containing mostly several year old programs repurposed from other Discovery-owned networks. I consider it mostly a channel to demonstrate HD capabilities at this point, rather than an actual originally programmed network.

LoadStar is right, the HD Discovery channel is mostly that on 541.

We have 22 HD full time monthly subscriber channels, not including 500 or 531 which are PPV (500) and mostly-never-on (531), including 541.
-Compare that to the over 50 HD channels in Texas and New York.

Discovery HD Theatre on TWC channel 541 is from a time when HD programming needed a "boost" - Discovery made this channel, just that.
But now, since Discovery has more HD channels, it really doesn't need this channel as much as before.
-Unless your cable system is as bad as ours (in TWC Milwaukeeland) with its limited HD channel selection because SDV is not in use yet.:(

This is getting ridiculous.  I'm actually getting to the point where its embarrassing to admit that I pay for TWC HD service.

He may be one of those schmucks who pays for UniversalHD, HDNet, and Mojo. I admit that I errantly paid for those channels when I first moved to Milwaukee but subsequently realized that they were worthless.

What took you so long? I've been embarrassed of that fact for years! :)

I pay for them, and I'd argue they're far from worthless.

UniversalHD has Firefly in HD, which I watch frequently, and watch the occasional other movie or TV series on it. Plus, during the Olympics, UniversalHD will carry additional HD olympics coverage, also worth it in my book.

HDNet has Torchwood in HD, as well as some decent second-run TV shows and some nice concerts.

Mojo... well, I can't say I watch anything there. It was a better network when it was still InHD.

I've even watched some movies on HDNet Movies.

Are these networks worth the ridiculous price TWC is charging for them? No, probably not, but I pay it anyway in the interest of making the most of the limited HD selection TWC offers us.

I watch Firefly and some other things on UHD, but the commercials are getting to me after awhile (this channel never had many if all), but since we don't get Sci-Fi HD with TWC, so it's a compromise, as the Sci-Fi HD channel does have commercials, too (it, too, is a unit of NBC/Universal).

HDNET has Torchwood and shows I wouldn't want to miss, too, agreed.

As for HDNET Movies, I often record on my DVR many movies as these are shown uncut, in true OAR and even though many are repeats, I can still get to watch them if I miss them (some I never saw and finally enjoyed).
So is the HD package worth $7/month for 4 more HD channels, well, I am putting my money where my complaining is...I do subscribe.

As for Directv, its HDExtra package offers FIVE more HD channels for FIVE dollars and although it includes HDNET Movies and UHD, too, the other 3 it does offer, I wouldn't mind having for a buck each.;)
