CEDIA Show on HDNet tonight says that as of this year, 4 MILLION Hi Def TV sets have been sold, with another 2 million to be sold next year.

Using simple math and some assumptions, that means that if Wisconsin is an average state, that there are 80,000 of 'em here. With 5 DMA's in the state (Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Wausau, Eau Claire) that would mean that there are 16,000 here in Milwaukee. That, of course assumes that the Milwauke DMA is no bigger than the others.

I don't know the total number of households in the Milwaukee area, but if 20,000 of them have HDTV, I bet Jim Hall doesn't know all of them on  first name basis.

And how many receivers? That is the problem.

My dad came over for Monday night football this week, and I was telling him about how all the stations should have a Digital signal by Christmas, and I think he is getting serious about getting a new TV.

Just last week he was complaining about the "Black Bars" from the new DVD player I got him for Fathers day.  I told him that it was time to get a HDTV, so the screen won't be so small, and the Black Bars won't bother him anymore.  His reply was "I think I'll wait untill it all gets worked out."

I didn't know what he meant by that at the time, but now I think he meant that he thought there were no channels to watch.

I think if the local channels would do a better job of letting people know that they have a digital channel as well as the one they are currently watching, they will start selling new TV's like hot cakes.

I think TWC could also do a better job of educating the public.  You would think they would to at least push people to move to digital cable.

How easy is it for TWC to get HiDef boxes these days? When I wanted one last year, it took them a month to get me one.

...and I had to know someone to get it...

I get it in three days last December. But I kept it only one week and switched to Dish Network. Now I can watch local HDTV + Dish HDTV without any additional STB. All for $500 - 12*@21.99 discount from Dish.
Cable signal was very bad on my Hitachi 61.
