Will this game on channel 4 be in HD?

smack

No, it will not be it is a state broadcast.  However the preseason game against Jacksonville on thursday the 23rd on Fox most likely will be in HD.  Although, looking at your screen name I would guess you are not interested in the GB v Jax game.

Channel 4 will do whatever is the cheapest possible.

Channel 4 is really only a secondary partner in the actual broadcast of the pre-season games...more for Jessie Garcia and Larry McCarren's participation than anything else.  WFRV is the primary broadcast right holder, and, because even they and WTMJ together wouldn't have enough SD cameras, cameramen and switching equipment to cover an NFL game, they use CBS network people and equipment to shoot and produce it. And CBS still doesn't have enough HD equipment to cover every regular season game, much less do every pre-season game, especially for a game out in the boonies being broadcast to a couple smaller markets covering a game that doesn't count for anything played by a team that may be lucky to finish above 8-8, fielding a bunch of guys who won't be playing in the NFL after Labor day.

Lots of reasons for a lack of HD coverage but, while sensible economics play into it, the cheapness of channel 4 isn't necessarily the primary factor.

Actually, the Packers look pretty good this year and are markedly improved over last year at this time. The only real weaknesses I can see are at running back and tight end. Too bad WTMJ can't borrow HD cameras from channel 10/36. They have at least three of them and an HD truck.

Tom Snyder

I've read that it takes between 7 and 12 cameras to cover a game.

I'm not as hopeful. No running back is a real problem. Without a running game there's no passing game either. :(

You don't need a stud RB using the Denver system, though it wouldn't hurt.

I realize channel 4 doesn't actually produce the broadcast.  They are still cheap though.

TAS

Channel 4 may be too cheap, but good thing WFRV is in charge of the state-wide network:
