U-Verse starting with 2 HD streams!

From EngadgetHD, AT&T's U-Verse is offering 2 HD streams at once, formerly 1 HD channel per household to watch at a time.

See:

Now all that has to happen is for it to be available everywhere else U-Verse exists!

(and of course, be available in Kenosha County, for those fed-up TWC subs:( )

Cool.  At the same time though, I've posted a bunch in that forum that UVerse needs to make fixing current issues a priority before they roll out new features.  Their philosophy is great "Oh your DVR just ignored the season finale of (your favorite show)?  Well did I mention we will be rolling out WHDVR sometime in FY09?"

Wow! Got the 2HD in Waukesha, WI. I called a rep and asked when they expect the 2HD to rollout in the Milwaukee area. She told me it was available right now and all she had to do is update my account. I just had to reset my box! If AT&T keeps this up I may just have to keep U-verse.

Confirmed!!!

I'm in Bayside, WI...

I  called tech support initially, but they switched me to sales..  The sales rep was able to change me over to the 2HD streams...

A couple box reboots later, and its working...

Sales rep told me that in June they are coming out with a Cisco box to replace these crappy motorola boxes (yey!), although I dont know if thats BS or not....

Then the sales rep tried to bullsh*t me about how U-verse was the only provider that does not re-compress HD streams and how all HD channels are streamed out exactly as they receive it, at 920p, but I guess thats a topic for another post (gee I wish I had the telephone voice recorder on, oh well maybe next time)..

But the 2 HD streams are working

Good job AT&T (now please remove the bullsh*t from the sales force)...

Works in Wauwatosa.

I called and the rep stated they were rolling it out over the next month but he would see if my area was already equipped to handle two streams.  It was so then he tried enabling it on my account.  The change was accepted.  About 15 minutes later I checked my box settinga  and they indicated that I had 2 HD streams.  When I tried to tune in 2 HD channels I got the "HD in use" message so I rebooted all my boxes and everything worked as advertised!

Great news, but now the only thing I could complain about U-Verse now is that there is limited roll-out for many of  us, including Kenosha, even though the moratorium has ended for us on getting it installed here.

Once U-Verse is available in more areas, it will be a bigger impact on TWC than it currently is, but the the 2HD streams is definitely a huge step.;)

(You U-Verse subs don't have Sci-FiHD yet, though, do you? )

Nope, but we do have 4,6,12,18,24,36,58 in HD, and more SD channels than anyone else, so there is plenty to watch as we count our savings over D* and TWC? :p

It appears from my initial testing that when I record two HD shows simultaneously, that my entire bandwidth is used up and I can't watch any other channel (even SD) on any other TV in the house.

You're right.  But I've been too busy watching NFL network in HD to notice.;)

Hmmmm, I was able to record 2 SD streams and 2 HD streams at the same time....

MrTanner and TPK,

Which speed of internet do you have with your Uverse?  I'm curious if upgrading from the base speed robs some of the bandwidth that could be used for TV.  I'm very close to dropping TWC and trying Uverse, but having only 1 HD stream was a deal-breaker for me.

Someone forgot to tell the marketing people at TWC. Just saw a brand new ad on WISN that picks on U-Verse for only being able to stream one HD channel at a time.

TWC is well known for its deceptive advertising and telemarketers because it never checks out the facts, only to "play its game" better with consumers, IMO.

-TWC still advertises that satellite charges for locals and while that it true for Dishnetwork, Directv stopped doing that some time ago...but you won't see TWC comparing that, will we?

"Free HD" is another joke, IMO, since in order to get their HD national channels, a HD convertor box or CableCard must be paid for on a monthly basis to get the FEW we get from TWC WISCONSIN.:(

They all play that advertising game.  :)

TWC is right about charging for locals. DirecTV basically eliminated the lower priced no local package, which I still have. If I do want locals from DirecTV. I'll have to pay more.

Nothing is free.

Except all the HD locals I get via my trusty $19 Radio Shack double bowtie indoor antenna (well, that and an expensive tv). ;)

I have the highest tier of internet, called "Max" I believe......  its 10Mb/1.5Mb down/up...  Doesn't seem to affect the television and the 2HD streams at all...
