I finally pulled the trigger last night and called DirecTV. I was a subscriber from 02-06. In 06 some of you know our family had some serious issues with our landlord which resulted in us high-tailing it out of the house were in to a much nicer area. One resulting problem from that was we let D* go. Long story short when I contacted them I was presented with a 658$ bill. My heart sank a little and I contemplated paying as much as I could then and maybe the rest later. Here is where DirecTV sets itself a part from TWC...

I explained to them my situation. I said I was more than happy to bring everything current and asked if there was anything they could do for us. The gentleman on the line said he would waive the cancellation fee right away ($270) and credit that back as well as charges for equipment protection. This brought us back to $300+ which was a MUCH easier pill to swallow. I asked for a new HD DVR+ since we only had the H-20 currently and some older tivo units. He waived $100 off the cost of the DVR to make it 99$. Installation is scheduled for tomorrow between 8-12. God willing and weather on our side tomorrow that POS *Gator box and all its siblings will be removed and HD goodness will fill the house. The whole process took 35 mins, 10 of which was spent being told welcome back, we are happy to help you, provide service and make sure your needs are met. WOW, say what? Happy to help and have me? Crazy talk!

Has TWC ever done anything for me? No. Have they charged me the same or more for 70% less than D*?  Yes. Is there anything they could do now to keep me (if they even cared)? No.  Good riddance TWC. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I will tackle the no CBS HD feed soon. Being in Waterford MAYBE I have a prayer at a waiver? I can tell you what I will be doing Saturday night, setting season passes for BSG on SCI-FI HD, Ax-Men on History HD, Deadliest Catch on Discovery HD. I cannot wait!!!!

Congrats!  I wish I could join you, but we don't have the right southern exposure from our apartment.  I just wanted to "pile on" with a TWC customer service nightmare.

In addition to paying more for less, I now have to watch my bills like a hawk.  I was given a credit recently for service outages.  After paying my bill (with the credit on it), they put the credit back on, added it to my next bill, and charged me $5 late fee for "not paying my bill in full".

I went paperless so I have no means to "prove" what the amount was.  I managed to get them to take that off, and credit me for the inconvenience of being called a liar.  I will now be taking screen prints of every bill I pay, and reporting any discrepancies to the BBB and any agency that will listen if it happens again.

...sorry...

So again, congratulations on returning to a company that seems to care about it's customers!   (Please U-verse come this way soon....)

Hopefully CBS will sign with the satellite services...from JSONLINE

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=741831

Jim Hall, the general manager of Weigel's Milwaukee stations, says discussions are under way to get Me-TV picked up on Charter Cable's analog service, along with the DirecTV and Dish Network satellite systems.

He says those talks also include attempts to get Channel 58's high-definition CBS programming on both satellite services.

"We are talking about everything," says Hall.

Meanwhile, Me-TV will continue airing as digital cable Channel 201 on Time Warner and Charter, and as over-the-air digital Channel 58.3.

In a related matter, some viewers of Me-TV have complained of the picture being frozen or broken up on Time Warner's Channel 201 periodically since the channel launched on March 1.

Hall says it was believed to be a problem on the cable company's end, and that work was done over the weekend to fix the problem.

If Hall is holding out 58HD so he can get ME-TV added to DirecTV that sucks.  I really don't care if I get Bewitched and Mork & Mindy reruns.

ME-TV has Mork and Mindy!  I may have to actually check it out.

Mork calling Orson.  Come in Orson.
Na-Nu-Na-Nu.

Ohhh ... and Mindy ... Mmmmm ... she's really hot!    I wonder if a restraining order is still valid after 27 years.

Congrats!  I switched to U-Verse about a month ago and haven't looked back.  I would have gone with D* if I had a southern exposure, but I'm just happy to be done with TWC.
