Anyone know a LCD repair place in Milwaukee?

Bought an Olevia LT30HV in December of 2004 @american.
This morning... PROBLEMS!

The screen flashes blue, like it normally does...and then it stays black after turning it on. The Audio still works, so I'm pretty sure something burned out/overheated.

Olevia says I can send it to them, and pay $100 for them to look at it, then whatever parts and labor are needed. I was wondering if anyone knew somewhere to take it (aside from American) here in Milwaukee. THANKS!

It's up to you but after shipping, you'll be paying $100 JUST to have them look at it and probably a few hundred more to fix a 4 year old HD "Ready" TV.
It's probably something to do with the backlight being burnt out (I'm no expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night).
Sounds like your repair will be around $300-$400 and you could easily buy a new bigger 32" Olevia for about the same price. It sounds wrong but nowadays it's better to throw something away and replace instead of repairing.
imho

I hope that your able to find a cheap repair shop though.

If you ever listen to Clark Howard He says that any electronics after one year old isn't worth repairing  (try telling that to someone who may have spent over 1K on their TV!)  But the way the features improve year after year he may be right. My projection TV (at least 5 years old) has no tuner, no HDMI inputs, and takes up a lot of room!  I'd luv to upgrade to a flat panel hang on the wall set. Just can't go and buy something new every few years. But if I could............................:D :D

There is another big issue to consider. Syntax-Brillian (the company that makes Olevia)  is going out of business and support and parts is going to be hard to come by. They are defaulting on loans and you can read about it HERE

I suggest that you take advantage of the retailers out there offering No Interest TV loans till 2010 and buy a brandy new TV like THIS 32" Toshiba for ~$600. Toshiba is closing out there older models to make room for the newer ones and this 32" model is usually $999 so it is a great deal.

Just trying to help........

I thought that Audio Emporium in Brown Deer would do repairs (or at least take them in and outsource it elsewhere).  I cannot say anything about their prices, but it may be worth a call as they are nice guys.  You may get a name of a reputable place.

Other than that, I can say that most of the TV repair shops that are even in business anymore probably don't deal with anything that doesn't come in tube form.

I disagree. If you look in the yellow pages, most of the TV repair place  DO indeed fix all types of flat panel displays from LCD to plasma.
I have an older RPTV that needs some new IC chips soldered on. I ended calling Emergency TV Service just to see what the cost would be for that. Much to my surprise they new EXACTLY the issue with my TV, had the parts in stock, and were willing to do the repair at my house for a pretty good price.

Anyways I ended up talking to the guy for a long time regarding TV technology. He said they have many, many of the LCD's and plasma's in their shop getting fixed, and that the average repair price is close to $1000.....most needing new light engines. He was saying it is very common for these to need repair, and some are built so "corner cutting" for cost, he said we will not be surprised if these things need this type of repair every 4-5-6 years.

The whole time he kept remarking that they just don't build them like my 230 lbs big old Mitsubishi. He even praised how good the picture looked almost 7 years after purchase. I have often thought about getting rid of the Mits for a sexy new flat plasma that could hang on the wall, but his thoughts on the technology of TV's today kind made me think I am going to hold on to my TV for as long as I absolutely can.

I'd be glad to take a look at your HDTV. I'm located in Hartland. I already know what the problem with it is. If you want to drop it off it will take me about a week to complete the repairs. I do hdtv repair on the side so I can offer a very competitive price.

Let me know if your interested.

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn -

I have an old 55" Mits with the convergence problem.

It's not easy to transport .... will you do service calls too ?

What about calibration ?

I have a neighbor with the same convergence problem... Todd, are you still in general direction from Milwaukee? If so, maybe Shawn could make it worth his while to do a two-fer.

I am ... I'm living about a mile from my old house.

However, that RPTV is in storage until I buy a new house.

Can your neighbor wait a bit ?

Tom Snyder

I don't think he's in a hurry at all... he's getting a new LCD or Plasma and is just using the Mitsu for his kids' Wii.
