Is anyone using the new Om-Demand stuff? IS it worth it?
I am looking at buying a WIFI adapter, but dont want to spend the cash if the selection is pretty limited.

thanks

I am using it and am quite pleased.  Currently, there isn't much hd content other than pay per view movies.  Although, they recently added some non-ppv content.  However, the sd selection is pretty extensive.  It is different from TWC's on-demand, however.  You select programs and then it is downloaded.  So, you can't start watching immediately.  Other than music videos, which don't take much time to download, I usually select movies/shows that I want to see and have them download right before I go to bed so I can watch them at my convenience the next day.  As for the premium channels, they offer most except for HBO and Cinemax.  You get on demand Starz, Encore, Movie Channel, Showtime, Fox Movie Channel.

Directv has a kit available on their website to use for on demand instead of using wifi.  I haven't taken the plunge on this yet, waiting to get info on if it is worth the $75 to set it up.  From what I can tell it works through your exisitng electrical wiring in your house and provides a direct connection between your DVR and router

I've used it a bit, but I've also cruised through the offerings and found it to be very extensive and quite inclusive of most the programming.

As far as the Pay channels, you MUST be a subscriber to those channels in order to download the content.

I have mine hardwired to my router because it was fairly easy for me to run the new cable into the basement and to the router.

The other benefit to getting connected either via Wi-Fi or hard wire is the Media share feature. I can access my photo's and videos on my PC from the HR21 and play them on my TV.

Beats sitting at the desk watching videos.

The OnDemand feature works great for me.  I have an HR-20 HD DVR. The DVR's they are putting out now, the HR21's need a USB add on for OTA reception.  The HR20 has it integrated. Solidsignal.com (great service) still has a few left, otherwise DirecTV will give you an HR21 which looks sleek, is probably faster, but lacks the OTA tuner. (You canbuy the USB add on OTA tuner next month I think) Yes, with DTV OnDemand you do download the movies via the internet but you can watch while downloading.  So, start the download, and about a minute or 2 later you can begin watching.  I use a wireless game adaptor (fixed IP) to my linksys wireless router and it does a good job.  If you use DHCP on the wireless game adaptor sometimes it needs rebooting.

Don't belive the cable distortions of most HD ... If you count the same program 10 times it's still 1 program... and it's not a true channel if it only shows one program in a continuous loop.
