okay, so today I took the day off of work to get my DirecTV installed.  They were to come between 12-4pm today.  At 4:03pm the installer called and said they wont be coming due to not having the equipment that I needed.  So I killed a day off work and found out about this this late in the day!!  I am anything but happy!!!

I guess I am stuck with Naviagtor for a while longer.  I can't take that many days off and have this happen again where they don't have the stuff in stock even though they set up the install appointments.  I almost hate DTV more than TWC at this point!!!!!:bang:

THAT SUCKS!!!

You know what?  There was another poster either on this forum or the AVS forums that had the same issue happen to them.  The installer calling and saying they didn't have the equipment they need?  What exactly did they say to you?  What equipment didn't they have?  Hope they didn't say a dish!!!

I'd call and see if you can score a free HD-DVR as compensation.

Dish "Slim line" and HD-DVR.  The installing company said they don't know when they will get more in but they will set up a install date for Sunday if I would like, BUT they still might not have the stuff in stock?  What is one to do??  DTV said this NEVER happens and this is a strange case.  The installer told me they never know when they are going to have the stuff in stock.  What's up with that?!.:bang:

I guess I was fortunate.  Last week I had three HR-21's , two other receivers, and a Slim Line installed.  Other than being about two hours late (showed up at 2pm for a 8-12 window) it went very well.  Maybe I used up the local supply :(

I would highly recommend calling customer service.  I have heard of people getting a $100 credit or a free HD-DVR for your situation over at DBS forums.

As a longtime TWC guy, a little frustration now is worth it.  D* is great.  I am so glad I finally did it.

yea DTV did offer $100 for the missed call but no idea when the goods will be avaiable for install.

I'm thinking they have been caught offguard by an overwhelming number of new subscribers.. wonder where they're coming from and why it's so sudden.  :huh?:

TWC and Navigator is why.  Just my guess?!.

Always have the installation early in the morning.  In the event they run out of equipment. As you have experienced.

That was me. From what I got from the installer, it sounded like in the morning he got his list of installs for the day. He drove up to Milwaukee to pick up the equipment, but he must have gotten there after all the other installers as they were out of HR21 boxes. Looks like the scheduling department isn't in sync with the installation department.

I wrote a letter and snail-mailed it to D* and a couple of weeks later, they gave me a call to apologize and to give me an extra $10 off per month for a year.

Usually it's not the time of day of your appointment that matters it's the day of the week.  When I had the new dish installed last year the guy told me they get the new batch of HD-DVR's on Sundays and often run out of them by later in the week and have to scramble to get more.

In this case though it wasn't an end of the week appointment so it's strange they would be out of them.

DTV had a run of new subscribers when their new sat when online last year but lately other than adding a few minor new HD channels there really hasn't been anything they are doing that would suggest a surge in new installs.

I was playing dumb in my post above.

It's pretty obvious that Navigator is producing a decent sized exodus from TWC... the sore displeasure being expressed here by our members is echoing in the population in general.  Bob and Brian's mention and Tim Cuprisin's article weren't created by our site.

I'm hearing from people I know who don't even come to this site that Navigator was just the last nail in Time Warner's coffin as far as they were concerned...

I'm sure Premier Communications tries to keep only enough dishes and boxes on hand to meet their expected need for a week in advance. Any spike in demand will deplete that supply.

I will say the girl I talked to at Premier seemed very nice and wants to reschedule she just isn't sure when the stuff will get back in stock?  Makes it hard to make appointments due to this.  I just know I can't wait to ditch TWC!!!

Agree Tom,

I have been looking and looking all over the Internet for something complimentary about Navigator, but I am just not finding anything.  Under the best of circumstances, depending on where you live, and if you're lucky, you'll get it and it's "Just OK."  But no one is dancing in the isles over this thing either.

But I also don't think it is exclusively Navigator why people may be leaving TWC.  I believe it is a combination of the following:

1.) Inept customer service and field techs, uncaring, or any combination of the two.

2.) The lack of HD offerings compared to Direct TV and Dish

3.) The searching for other options in their area such as U-Verse

4.) And than of course, you have to add Navigator as a main issue, just not the only issue.

I wonder how long TWC has their municipality contract within the city of Milwaukee and vicinities?  They had better get their act together with Navigator working well and more HD content, or they may face class-action lawsuits.  This is a serious concern.  Does anybody know when TWC's contract is up with the City of Milwaukee?

The problem is a global consensus that most cable companies suck, so let's say that Comcast were brought to Wisconsin. I'm not so sure that things would be all that much better than with TWC.  Recall last year, a top YouTube video showed a Comcast Representative SLEEPING on a customer's couch waiting for a box to active!  So maybe all the cable companies are $hit.  I have heard that Charter is even worse than TWC for customer service.  But that their program guide, which I think is in-house, at least works.

Do any of you guys have Charter, and how is their service compared to TWC?

My parents have Charter (too much blockage for a dish), and their service is pretty horrible.  Hard to believe it could be as bad or worse than TWC but I've heard that it is.
