HD Locals Launching in Milwaukee, WI:)
Programming Changes/Additions: 4/7/2008 5:23 PM
Effective Thursday, April 10, 2008 by 6:00 a.m. ET, DISH Network will launch the ABC, NBC and FOX in high definition (HD) into the Milwaukee, WI locals package at no additional programming charge.

Customers must subscribe to a dishHD programming package or pay the HD enabling fee in order to receive the HD local channels as a part of their local programming package. Additionally, customers must have a dishHD receiver and an antenna pointed at the 61.5 orbital location.

Station Affiliation DISH Network Chnl # Local Chnl # Satellite
WISN ABC 5200 12 61.5
WTMJ NBC 5202 4 61.5
WITI FOX 5203 6 61.5

GUESS WHAT? NO CBS HD!!!

With the FCC poised to mandate a provide one provide them all for HD locals, why no PBS, CW & MyNet? At least if CBS58 isn't carried Dish could at least add PBS or the CW. Perhaps that would be more incentive for 58 to cut a deal.

Just started a chat on dishnetwork.com, trying to get at the front of the list to get a new dish pointed at 61.5.

According to them as of a minute ago
Me: so do I have to pay for a new dish to be installed and pointed at 61.5 ?
(dish network) Jessie S: Yes.

I guess it is time to get on ebay and get an old dish.

I don't know about Dish, Directv will be carrying PBS later this year. They have signed a carriage agreement with PBS. No hard date as of yet.

I would imagine PBS will light up after D11 is operational. That may mean later this summer or this fall.

CBS 58 apparently doesn't like Dish's carriage terms either.

Well, Well, Well; so I would think this would end all comments that it is DirecTV's fault that they don't have CBS 58 in HD being Dish wont have them either.  What have you say now Jimmy Boy?

What a messed up CBS station we have in SE Wisconsin.

Shame on you CBS58:mad:    you suck:bang:

I don't care if Dish Network gets HD locals if it means having a second dish on my roof. I already have a TV antenna for OTA HD locals because Dish didn't have them on satellite. I also have a Dish 1000 for all of Dish networks channels. They told me when they put up the Dish 1000 that replaced my Super Dish that would also take care of the local HD when it went on line. I guess that wasn't the truth. I will just stick with the OTA HD locals. I don't really want 2 Dishes and a TV antenna on my roof. That is way to many holes. Besides it seems that Dish is constantly changing the amount and type of dish that you need to get their service. Also only supplying NBC, ABC and Fox doesn't cover all the networks. No CBS, PBS, channel 18 or 24. It's not worth the extra dish for me.

It is my understanding that the DISH 1000 will pickup the new HD locals at 61.5.  I had a chat with E* about this two days ago.  The people that will need a new dish are those with a Superdish or a 500.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

My Dish 1000 picks up the 110, 119 and 129 satellites. The 61.5 satellite is in a different direction and requires a second dish to be pointed at it.

I have the Dish 1000. Receives 110, 119 & 129. The CSR seems to think that they may be able to redirect the 61.5 signal to one of the other satellites.

He said it will be available after 5 am on Thursday. Will see what happens, with my morning java.

Sorry, that's not right. The dish 1000 looks at 110, 119, and 129. The new local HDs were put on 61.5. If you have a dish 1000, they will have to put up a wing dish, in addition to your dish 1000.

So, anyone know enought about dish network equipment to tell me if an old satellite dish from ebay is enough to get the Milwaukee locals from 61.5?  I currently have a dish 1000 and no switch that is exposed.  Looks like the old dish's with LNB are going for somewhere around $50, probably 1/3 the price to have DishNet come out and do it.  I assume I'd need some piece of hardware to combine the satellite signals into a single cable before they enter my receiver.... I have an old DirecTV multiswitch, would that work?

Does anyone know if any additional content is found on 61.5 other than the supposed HD locals that launch on Thursday? I get very good reception on all the Milwaukee OTA channels so if there is no new content on that bird then there isn't much of a reason for me to point at it.

I called Dish. Asked them the same question, as to 61.5. The CSR indicated that the only other content on that satellite is international and religious programming.

In addition, any new HD programming will be thru 110, 119, & 129.

I also get mine OTA, so will not be adding the wing dish.

I decided to get the wing dish so that I can point my antenna in another direction and hopefully get GB, Madison, or Chicago locals.  I'll try all 3 directions and see if any of them come in.  I'm kind of hoping Chicago channels come in so that I can get different NFL games on some weeks.
