I never requested one myself, because they're of zero good to me since they can't be used for anything that can output higher than component or coaxial.

I understand they were holding off distributing the coupons until there were a significant enough number of boxes on the market.

I got my coupons today, they are actually credit card like.

Now to find a place that's selling them for $40.  The letter inside mentions Best Buy, Wal Mart, & Radio Shack so I guess that's where I'll start.

Good to hear you received the coupons, I will buy one for my mother, who lives in Waushara County and gets OTA from the Green Bay stations.  She cannot get cable in a rural area and does not want to try satellite (She is 86 years old). I will try to keep her TV working through the change-over with the converter box.

Most readers of this forum have new equipment and have no use for converter boxes, but I'm sure there are millions of people who will loose the signal come next February, like my mother.

Anybody remember the name of that store near 60th and Rawson that sells 8 bay bowtie antennas? I would like to call to be sure they have them in stock before driving there.

Got my coupons two weeks ago, and have my first box: the Zenith DTT-900.
Wow. On the major UHF signals from Milwaukee, I get blips of signal (33-1,34-1,40-X,46-X) even with no tropo, with a ChannelMaster 8-bay UHF antenna from 90+ miles southwest of Milwaukee. I am impressed. 6th generation tuners ROCK!

I picked up one of each with my coupons. Both had excellent picture and sound and both pulled in a station a digital TV tuner didn't. (I bought them for somebody else) The Insignia from Best Buy looked like it was better built and the on screen menus looked better, but both did the job equally well. Both were easy to setup and scanned the channels quite quickly. The Magnavox was $10 less at Wal Mart, but I think the Insignia is worth the money.

I think people who use these will be pleased with the reception.

By letter I was informed that my coupon won't be arriving before the first of June
because of heavy demand for the coupons. The letter also stated that they were staggering the delivery of coupons to prevent a rush, since the coupon is only good for 90 days and to insure a steady supply of hardware.

When did you apply?  I still haven't yet, because I want to be sure the Echostar TR-40 is out.  If they're not sending them till June, I may apply now.

Thanks

In the middle of march and I made a mistake I received no letter but went to there website with my order number to obtain that information.

I bought mine online from an outfit called Erwincomp and it was less than 60 bucks with shipping.  Came to the door within a week. What does it cost at point of purchase on Rawson?

I have an Insignia and it has two major drawbacks (which also exist in the Zenith DTT900 clone), both of which have been discussed at length on AVS Forums. It's Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder is flawed - the sound that comes out of the left channel during a DD broadcast has a high pitched slur that is very annoying if you are able to hear such high frequencies. The only known workaround is to use an RCA splitter to bypass the left channel, which of course forces you to use mono sound. Second, the electronic programming guide only has information for what is on now, and what is on next.

Despite these drawbacks, the general consensus is that this box is the best on the market right now. However, there are many more boxes yet to hit the market, which will probably have better features and fewer bugs.
