DirectTV added ESPNNews HD, Disney HD, and Toon Disney HD today.  I'm sure glad I dumped TWC last fall.

That I have DirecTV -- these are just 3 additional to the many they already have now.  Much better than the poor offering Time Warner has.  Maybe Time Warner Milwaukee will have more selections in about 10 years at the rate they are going.

who knows, with this "great" new Navigator software TWC might night make it ten months not ten years?.:)

I read that they did this today.  Must be nice, 3 days after ESPNNEWS begins broadcasting in HD, DirectTV is already making it available to thier subs.  TWC has a carriage agreement already in place to carry ESPNNEWS HD, so that means that it'll probably be at least a year till we have it here in SE WI.

I may have to go back to TWC after 8 years with DTV.  Just too many HD choices, I can't decide what to watch.;)

My kids will be happy.  Hannah Montana in HD and 5.1.  Awesome...I think...

I'm so glad I switched.

Lately, my installs and pre-setup consulting has all been around DirectvHD for their HT setups-no TWC at all.
I describe and show how easy it is to use the Directv HR20/21 HD DVR and how quickly it works to get their "HD fix", they go for it almost right away.:D
My only "problem" will be when TWC adds Navigator to the rest of its cable boxes, I will probably get the calls as to why this didn't happen and how do I do this?
-Then I will just tell them that for more HD channel choices, lower possible cost and faster/easier HD DVR operation : DirectvHD !

Yup. DirecTV is the KING!!!!!:D

I actually gave this channel a few minutes.  Its kinda cool.  Like the Bloomberg or CNBC channel for the sports freak.  All kinds of tickers, line scores etc all while broadcasting on the larger picture in the center.

Almost too busy but if you are looking for a specific score or specific player you shouldn't have to watch it for more than a couple minutes.

One of the best things about D* is their extra innings package, with HD, this year.

They have a mix channel (showing all the games at once - well, at least 8 games), and you can move between the 8 games on the screen and then the audio changes (specific to the game you have the cursor on)!  On top of that, you can move the cursor on the game you want - and it flashes the SD version and HD version of the game - hit enter and it takes you right to the game in HD!

Most games are in HD now.....

Baseball has never been so good.....

I'm trying to figure out what my bill might be and I have a few questions for DTV subscribers...

Do you pay for the "DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN - $5.99 Monthly"?

Do you get the HD Extra package for $5?  That seems like they're nickel and diming you to death.  I sometimes find some good stuff on HDnet but I'm not sure I'd like to pay an extra $5/month for it.

Are there extra taxes and fees like there are on the TWC bill or will the monthly calculation shown online be my actual cost?  From looking at my last TWC bill, there was ~$15 in extra fees/charges at the bottom (I also have RR and Phone so I don't know if that charge will go down much by dropping cable).

My brother (I use him as an example because he is cheap) has the extended protection plan and it has worked well for him, but you have to sign up for it.

The HD Extra Package from Directv consists of 5 HD channels (supposed to be in HD all the time) for $4.95 extra a month.
Note: HDNET is standard with every $9.99/month HD upgrade (or when you get a HD box turned on), HDNET Movies is the Extra Package-only.

(Compare that to TWC's $6.95/month for only 4 HD channels extra, HDNET included).

TWC has to add franchise fees and as I remember from my Directv days (going back soon), only the state tax was added, no franchise fees for satellite service.:D

The web site calculation is WYSIWYG. I've never had an issue between the charges I get on my paper statement as opposed to what I see on the website.

I still get a paper statement because I'm a dinosaur and like the paper confirmation and the trail it leaves. (I'm a "just in case" kinda guy)

Also I do pay for the protection plan. Why? (see above) "just in case"  I've only had to use it twice in 10 years but it did save me a good deal of $$$ when I had equipment failures. The $6.00 per month is not a deal breaker for me.

I also have just the phone and RR service from TWC. But i really cannot coment on what will hapen to your billing once you drop the TV service. I haven't had their TV service in 10 years
