An interesting article.

I note how it tends to state that PBS will be multicasting upto four channels during the day and then switching to HDTV for prime time.  I would be happy with this and think it is a very sensible idea.  Now if ownly our PBS would stop its five channel multicasting 24/7 (lets drop the wasteful MPTV Extra channel and improve the quality of the remaining four channels) and switch to HDTV on only one channel in the evening and I would be very happy.

A very good, if not basic, article written that even people who are not "technologically inclined" can understand.

Yes, for those who really would like to get a grasp on how all this fits together and how it all evolved it really is a good primer.  We shouldn't forget those who are just starting to get their toes wet.  Which actually includes the majority of us.  For we all are learning on the fly.

Excellent article.  I'm just getting into the world of HDTV and I found most of it to be a refresher but still interesting and easy to comprehend.

I wonder if the admin gods would think this is a good link on the links page?  hmmmmm

hint hint  (grin)

Tom Snyder

I can take a hint... I made the change...

BTW.. Too bad WISN's digital signal isn't on the air yet.. I could have given them a color logo... now it could be MONTHS before I have the time to update that page.

Yikes.  It took a whole 8 minutes for that to happen.  I bow to the admin gods.  hehe

Thanks Tom!!

How about links to the Madsion DTV stations?

veyj

I think the link for those is www.madisonhdtv.org.    Tom, are you hosting that site too?

Tom Snyder

hehehe

The name is actually available. If there were people in Madison that wanted to start one, I'd offer to host it for them...

The difference is that our friends in Madison don't have nearly as much to complain about as we do here in Milwaukee. Their biggest dilemma is probably having to choose between too many HDTV programs on any given night.

Okay, where the hell is my soapbox?  Here it is!  I'm almost tempted to use a lot of cuss words just to see if your text editor really works!
Here are your own words of:
Who we are:
This site is meant to educate people and promote High Definition TV. We are not in this for commercial gain and we are not associated with any broadcaster, manufacturer, or retailer. We chose to create this site as a way to spread the word about something we enjoy and in which we have an interest - High Definition Television. We also hope that this site will help clear up many misconceptions about what HDTV is and what it isn't.
Finally we want the site to be a technical resource for beginners and veterans alike to help them over any hurdles, real or imagined, that stand in the way of their enjoyment of HDTV. In short, we want to help people understand HDTV.

In reality this has been more of a bitch site then anything else.  The broadcasters have their own agenda and they aren't about to change it because a few HDTV enthusiasts want something different.  Sure it may be beneficial to allow users to vent, but that isn't what we're about.

Why don't we concentrate more on the Who we are: statement instead of the Where the Hell is Fox or ABC

I have my shields up so let the s*** fly!

Tom Snyder

Lots of bitching going on... but there's also a ton of great information being shared as well.

But unfortunately the vast majority of the great information isn't about comparative picture quality of Toshiba vs Pansonic, or whether the 60 inch plasma screen is worth it... it's information about what kind of goofy looking, wife alienating antenna we have to install and whcih way to aim it, what service (Cable, DTV or Dish) provides more HD content, tropospheric ducting...

What do they all have in common? Desparate, frustrated HDTV owners, trying to find what should be the omnipresent, full-power HD content that has been so scarce and long in coming...

Besides the bitching is therapuetic.

I'll go away now and... oops, ayyyyyeee...thump.. OUCH! Hey who left this soapbox laying here?!!??!??!

How dare we talk about bitching on my dear Cringely Crash Coarse topic.  (grin)  I thought it was of much educational value.  So there!
