DTV UPDATE

OVER-THE-AIR DTV SIGNALS NOW BROADCAST IN MARKETS
THAT INCLUDE 90% OF ALL U.S. TV HOUSEHOLDS

6 New Stations, 4 New Markets Now Transmitting Digital Signal

475 DTV Stations in 143 Markets

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 17, 2002 - Nine in ten U.S. households now live in markets served by one or more digital television signals transmitted by local broadcasters, the National Association of Broadcasters announced today.

The 90% DTV penetration threshold came with the announcement that six additional stations have made the transition to digital. Of those six new stations, four are the first-to-market DTV stations in the following cities: Amarillo, Texas; Sioux City, Iowa; Lake Charles, La.; and Omaha, Neb.

The six new DTV stations are:

KFDA-TV* Amarillo, Texas (market No.128), Drewry-owned CBS affiliate
KTIV-TV* Sioux City, Iowa (market No.144), QNI-owned NBC affiliate
WXMI-TV Grand Rapids, Mich. (market No.38), Tribune-owned Fox affiliate
KLTL-TV* Lake Charles, La. (market No.174), PBS member station
KHOG-TV Ft Smith, Ark. (market No.107), Hearst-Argyle-owned ABC affiliate
WOWT-TV* Omaha, Neb. (market No.75), Benedek-owned NBC affiliate
This brings to 475 the total number of stations broadcasting in digital. In addition, 45% of all U.S. TV households are in markets where broadcasters are delivering four or more DTV signals.

NAB serves and represents America's radio and television stations.

Rafiki

Are all these stations broadcasting in full power so that everyone in the area can see the full programs?

Gregg Lengling

I'd say you would have to look in their license filings at the FCC website to see what authorization they are running under to see that.  But I would venture to guess that less than half are.
