TWC Pausing

Has anyone else noticed TWC pausing for no apparent reason?  I have a 8300HD-C and twice in the last week, it has just paused.  Changing the channel unfreezes the picture.  If you rewind, it goes up to where it paused itself and won't let you go any further until you change channels.  I am so afraid to lose my passport on good HDTV.

Although I really don't have much time to watch TV, this did also happen to me last night, I was afraid it was going to reboot the DVR again (I hate when it does that), and if it did I was going to lose what I was watching because I was buffering the program (I was about 45 minutes behind the live feed).  Fortunately, hitting the pause and then run button got me back going again.  Seems like this has happened to my wife quite a bit in the last week.  Just waiting for April when I can switch to Uverse when my neighborhood VRAD is lit up. (and the 10meg down, 1.5meg up will be a big improvement over the 450k up I'm getting now with TWC).

For me,

This happened a few days ago when I was watching Parenthood on HBO VOD.  To unfreeze it, I had to change channels, go back to HBO VOD, reselect the movie, than spend about 4-5 mins FF to the spot where the freeze up occurred.  It hasn't happened since.  I have an 8300 DVR (no C) with Passport.  Didn't even think about it until the poster mentioned it now.

You can get 10meg down and 1.5meg up with U-verse?

Yep as of 2/1/2008 they are selling Max Speed internet with Uverse...most reports I've seen from users show like 9.8mbs down and 1.48mbs up...and it's your own pipe, not like TWC where you share bandwidth with your neighbors.

Hmmm, don't notice any speed upgrade here...

I have the "elite" internet speeds (paying $10 extra)....  Before it was rated at 6Mb down and 1Mb up (my latest speed test still shows that)....

Has this level of service changed??  Or is there another "higher" tier of service that I have to pay extra for??

Should I call and complain??

Okay...

So I called this morning and asked for the upgrade....  Lady on the phone said that I should have the new speeds within 4 to 6 hours, but being the impatient guy that I am I went and re-booted the gateway 10 minutes after I called and I got these results:

Not too shabby....  I was getting about 5.5m/900k before, so this is a definite improvement, but still just a tad slower than it really should be I think (if it dips below 9m down I will probably call and complain)....

Lady said that with the discount the internet portion of my bill would be $50 (instead of $55 without the discount)...  She reported that I was paying $35 before (although my most recent bill was showing $40 with no $5 discount)...  So I don't know if that discount is showing up somewhere else on my bill right now or not (its so confusing with all these promotions and discounts and charges)...

So that means that either I will be paying $10 more or $15 more a month for the increased speeds over the "elite" internet which was already $10 more than the standard internet (whichever that is) that comes with u-verse...  Kind of a bummer that they would put a price tier above what I was already paying instead of including these new speeds in the "elite" tier, but I guess as long as there are idiots like me willing to pay more for the faster speeds that is how they will continue to price it....

I currently have the U-400 package (which I meant to downgrade after the 2 free month promotion, but still havent done), and I also have a land-line with AT&T (which I think a $10 discount is coming from, not sure)....  Although in April I would have had U-verse for a year, which means that I will probably see a $10 increase on my bill because the HD pack promotion will expire at that time....   So much for trying to figure out the pricing....

Bottom line, my last bill was $141.58 after all services fees/taxes etc for u-verse, so I'm not sure if that is going to increase to (approx) $152 or $157....  Additionally, I'm still paying AT&T about $40 a month for my land line without long distance...  Hopefully when they offer VoIP services (the gateway is showing that VoIP is already avaialble) then I can save money by bundling in the phone line and long distance....   Or maybe I'll just get rid of the land-line entirely...

Anyhow, Ive never had DL/UL speeds like this before, so Im sure I will enjoy it a whole lot....

Thank you Gregg and Kevbeck for bringing this to my attention (I guess I havent been paying attention enough latelty myself)...

No pauses for me, but my box still reboots a few times per week.  It happened at my Super Bowl party in front of 20 people. It was fun to explain to them how much TWC sucks but how much worse it will be when Navigator gets pushed out to my box.

After the automatic reboots, it's a crap-shoot if my in-progress recordings start back up again.

By the way, on my non-DVR HD box that does have Navigator, why doesn't the channel guide ever show a preview of what's playing in the upper right-hand screen?  All I get is a black box, although the sound continues.

I am switching to Uverse when multiple HD stream support comes, hopefully by summer.  I want NFL Network and BTN without being screwed.  Plus the SA8300HD reboot gets very irritating.

Well, here's some good news about Navigator.  After 4 or 5 8300HD boxes that spontaneously rebooted on me almost daily, I finally got so p***ed off that I went to Mayfair and got an 8300HDC box with Navigator.  Well...as much as I truly hate 75% of Navigator, I can at least report that this is the very first 8300HD type box that hasn't rebooted on me-not once in 2 weeks.  So I'm hopeful that the agony of Navigator stupidness is worth it to be done with the rebooting.
