I'm getting that with RR Turbo.  If you call to upgrade its $10 extra per month.  Dont be afraid to deal with them on that price though, I asked for 12 months free and got 12 months at half price.  I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it though.  I have a PC with Vista so the difference with web browsing isnt much although I can download an entire CD from Itunes in under 30 seconds.

Quote from: Jack 1000;44710I guess the question is,

If you pay the additional $10/mo or whatever it is for Turbo or Business Class, (not sure what the fee is,) what exactly do they do?  Do they put you on a different server with more bandwidth and higher speeds?  What's on the Turbo/Business package that gives users the speed increase?

I really haven't noticed any slowdown, but I came from an awful DSL company (Athenet) and before that, dial up with the same awful company.  For the little crap that I download, I don't think an upgrade to Road Runner Turbo or Business class would make a difference.

I believe the speeds are all part of a configuration in your modem.  They cap it at whatever you pay for.  Supposedly with business class you get routed through faster, more reliable routers... at least that's what they told me.  I get it for $41.. deal through work.

I'd say if all you do is browse the web, then either lite or the 2m service is the way to go.  I've used lite before and it's perfectly fine for browsing the web.

This is after complaining and receiving a new modem.  I was getting about 450kb downloads with 191kb uploads before that.  I am on the standard speed service.  Since DSL isn't available here, and Uverse isn't either so far, this speed is decent, and so much better than the crummy ATT phone lines here, where I was happy to get 24000 baud.

Nels,

You do not have wireless Road Runner, correct?

Jack

PS.  Good idea, everyone indicate the type of Road Runner service in posting your test results. (Standard, Turbo, Business Class) and whether or not you have a wireless connection.

It is a good Idea,

I'm using Tomato sauce cans and twine from Menards at the office.

I'm really pushing the powers that be to upgrade to refried bean cans and fishing line.

At home RR Turbo, See Milwaukee12's speed test that's my house.

Sorry, I didn't describe my setup.  I measured the speed through a 4 port wireless router (802-11b) on a hardwired connection, connected to a Road Runner standard modem.  I didn't bother to measure speed through my laptop and wireless connection because the router is only 802-11b and sort of pointless.
