Still afew bugs in the beta software but is working ok on my H21-700.  Direct should be close to a National release soon.

There is so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to start.  I'll just start & end with this:  Maybe the sat guys need to start investing less in satellites and more in HSD infrastructure, instead of leveraging what their competitors (cable & phone) have built.  If this thing takes off, don't be surprised if another round of network neutrality issues pop-up, or unlimited data packages disappear from data offerings in years to come...

I haven't hooked it up yet.  What are the HD options like?

hggeorge

They just started adding HD movies to the guide.  I checked the other day and I think it was only three.  Until Direct is finished beta testing the cutting edge software and a national release is beamed down to everyone the HD additions will be slow.  The amount of on demand in beta is better then TWC believe.  I switched to Directv last fall after two years of TWC telling me they would soon be adding more HD.  What a game tonight between Wisconsin and Indiana on BTN.

George,
What has been your DOD download time for a full-length HD movie?
Can you background it while watching other HD programming, any noticeable performance loss?

I haven't down loaded a HD movie yet.  If it doesn't have a score board chances are I'm not watching it.  My wife does movies and she is happy with the service.  Movies can be played with only about 1% down load.  I have RR turbo.

Likewise we left TWC to join DirecTV last fall.  Big Ten, NFL Network, Sunday Ticket awesome.
We may network our HR21 for DOD soon, sounds like a good experience.
So, if you can't find a show quickly on the regular DirecTV Program Guide, you can tap into the DOD Vault of past showings.  Is this correct?

Got 'er up and running this weekend. So far I think it's pretty cool. There is  already quite the list of stuff to download and watch. I should think that there will never be a time when I say "there isn't anything on".

Hooked up using the Linksys wireless game adaptor  (Linksys WGA54G ) I picked up from Best Buy. I initially had some trouble figuring out how to get WEP on the adaptor. I ended up hooking the adaptor to my laptop, running the set up for it, and setting it up with WEP encryption key. Hooked it back up the the Directv box and viola, I downloaded a bunch of GoodEats episodes and still was able to keep my network secure.

I have DSL at just the 1.5m download speed, and I do notice some lag. I guess the Directv connection takes most of the connection speed. I am thinking it might be toime to upgrade speed or just do most of the downloading overnight when no one is on the computer.

Even my wife likes it, and has started downloading her programs. Looks like i will be saving for a external HD to "up" my space for content.

I looked at it and the only HD programming for download was pay per view movies. Not too many as I recall, maybe about 6 titles. I haven't downloaded any of these.

Instead of using WEP encryption on your wireless network, try MAC filtering on your router instead - so that only the devices you specify can connect to your network. Then there's no encryption overhead to slow anything down.

What are we still in the 1980's?  Why can't Direct TV use the internet instead of a clunky land line phone connection?

Dumb.  MAC filtering can be easily hacked.

Not sure what you are talking about. You can plug the HR series into your home network with ease. Wifi, direct ethernet. Whatever suits you.

I think he meant things like ordering PPV, etc. The feature was supposed to be in the latest beta. I don't know if it has actually be implemented?
