Yeah this is pretty rough for me, I'm from Tenn but lived her most of my life, but this have to be one of the worst winters in 25 years. I mean every day its either cold or snowing. Hell it suppose to be avg 31degs this time of year, and it's a -3 out.
I also have no where else to blow the snow. I think it's going into the street next time. :D

The top 3 states on my list are New Mexico, Utah and Arizona(most expensive it seems). Then Tennessee and Kentucky(But I think the winters in these 2 are still a little too cold). I want to be able to fish year round.

I have been to Casa Grande, AZ, was their last summer.  It sits about 40 miles southeast of Phienix......3 bedroom home/2 baths/in-ground pool......................$190,000.00.........Taxes were $1,200.00

I am only here still because my wife's entire family is still here and she will never move far away from her Dad. However  I would love the desert southwest, AZ being the place I would want to move most. I LOVE hot and dry weather. Hey if you want snow, I could drive up to Flagstaff and go skiing in the winter with much , MUCH better skiing than anywhere in the mid-west and the tiny ity-bity hills they have here. Hell, you could spend the day skiing, then come back to your home in Scottsdale and grill out poolside if you want. Seriously what could be better than that ?

Also the property taxes are a fraction of what they are here. I might have to pay higher electric bills in the summer for running the A/C all day and night but here in good ol WI, I get double shafted because my electric and gas bills this year are off the friggin charts

Winter SUCKS, and Wisconsin SUCKS

And no my rant did not make me feel any better....I really hate winter. I haven't even enjoyed ice fishingthat much this year because if it isn't dumping tons of snow, it's been below zero which sucks even in a somewhat heated shanty. I would take warm weather fishing anyway......

Man, its not really THAT bad is it???

Lets not forget a couple things

1) This has been a pretty harsh winter compared to past winters, with the blizard of '08 last week plus all the other snow we've had and the bitter cold in between the snowfalls...  But I think this winter is the exception (at least lately) and not the norm...

2) Lets not forget how wonderful it is around here in the spring/summer/fall...  Its not too hot or too rainy or too humid, at least for long periods of time...  Wisconsin has more top notch golf courses than any other state...

3) Could be worse...  I havent been there but I would guess Alaska has far worse winters than we have here...  Ive been to Minnesota a few times in winter and I can tell you from experience that their winters are worse than ours....

4) Only severe natural disaters we might get around here are tornadoes...  Florida has hurricanes.. California has earthquakes and wildfires...  Arizona has killer bees and is eventually going to run out of water, etc...

5) Traffic isnt that bad when you compare it to most other populated areas...

I think Milwaukee is a great place to live....  I'll take the harsh winter as a counterbalance any day....  Fortunately for us, most of the rest of the nation thinks that Milwaukee (and the midwest in general) is a harsh no-mans land that they wouldn't be caught dead in...  I think thats GREAT that they think of us that way....  Let them have the east and west coasts... It'll keep this place from becoming over-populated....

Anyhow, thats what I think....

I agree with you if you expand this to Southeast Wisconsin, since I'd never actually want to live in Milwaukee.

I posted about the variety above, and it's really a benefit that keeps the outside world from becoming boring.  Not to mention the nice people around here, the good education system, and the relatively low (taxes excepted) cost of living.

Given any other place to live, I don't think I'd want to stray far.

Well I guess Wisconsin doesn't really suck, I was refering to the weather more than anything else. I  do enjoy fishing, hunting, and the Packers.
I am not a  I-need-all-the-different-seasons type of person. Give me warm and dry and I am good.

I am just very, very tired of the snow and maybe starting to get cabin fever or something.

We have been spoiled by the mild Winters for the past few years. At least we don't have to worry about hurricanes, earthquakes, fire, mudslides, and droughts. The snow will melt and Spring is around the corner. :guitar:

Think of it this way; In Az you could only buy 4 wheelers as toys. In Wisconsin, you can by 4-wheelers, Wave runners, and snow mobiles!

Plus we can buy snow throwers and 4-wheel drive trucks. Wisconsin is a big boy toy paradise :)

I'm not much for one season. I like the change and variety. I'd rather throw on a few layers than have to put on sunscreen to walk to the neighbor's house for a New Year's party.

I agree our taxes and poor services are outrageous, but that can change just as fast as the taxes and services can change in the Southwest when suddenly we get a few years of low rain and the water restrictions go into effect, then huge dollars need to be spent to pipe in water, etc. All we need is a few smart election cycles and we could be in a great place.

I'd much rather be able to water my grass all summer long even if it is only 3 months of the year.

I will agree, it is not like WI is unbearable all the time. I love summer and fall and enjoy riding my motorcycle around the state and visiting the many fine eating and libation establishments that WI has to offer. I own a cabin up north that I love to go to in the summer and even sometimes in the winter.

In the past few years, I have been able to go out on the bike a little in nearly every month of the year. Since turkey day, the weather has been basically crap. Those few warm days in Jan. were marred by the tornados that turned so many lived inside out.

It is this winter that has been bad. Thank God I finally bought a snow blower on Nov. 30. I had suffered too long without one and this year would have killed me without it.

Hopefully it warms up soon and the snow goes away fast. I am also hoping for a not-to-wet spring. To me spring is usually the worst time of year. Very hard to plan anything outdoors because the weather is very unpredictable.

On the bright side, with the writers strike coming to a close maybe Prime Time will get a little more interesting and make life somewhat more bearable until summer rolls around:)

I wish all of you people who don't like the weather in Wisconsin would quit yer bitchin and leave already.  I love just about everything about winter (and summer as well...spring and fall not so much, but I love em all), but one of my favorite things about winter is it helps keep the softies out of our state. If you are not of hearty enough stock to deal with it, then just leave.  Another of my favorite things about winter is shoveling.  I would rather shovel my snow than cut my grass any day.  The day I am too feeble to shovel my snow will be a sad day indeed.  The one thing I have about winter is all of the complaining from the people who should not be living here.  It makes it harder to enjoy something when you have to listen to all of the whining.  Taxes in WI are a problem, but the weather is not.  The taxes can be changed, the weather is what it is.  If your too soft too deal with it, head south and leave the winters for those of us who can handle it.

Chinatown

The taxes will never change. Wisconsin has a socialistic mantra. Always has, always will. Even if we were to eliminate the lousy winters.( see earlier post), we would still be higher then any of the states mentioned  in the southwest. And water is not a problem in Arizona. It is blown out of proportion, as my earlier post mentioned. For those of us that either no longer have children to raise, it is a much better alternative.

I have lived in Wisconsin all my life. But I will certainly look to relocate when the Real estate market comes back to some normality.

I've considered other parts of the Country to live in, but find this area to be very desirable compared to many other locations.  I have traveled to almost all of the preferred retirement locations, and find many things lacking, and problematic.

Florida is way too humid, and abounds in little creatures that want to share your yard and house.  Traffic sucks there too!  Southern Texas also is too humid, and buggy.  Phoenix humidity is on the rise recently due to the population increases, making the heat much less bearable.  A knowledge of Spanish is almost required in most of these areas.  Along the eastern seacoast, including Georgia, and the Carolinas, the Summers are also quite humid and oppressive.  The winters there aren't the escape like other southern states tend to be.

I have found some more desirable areas than the customary retirement locations that I think bear some research.  One is in northwestern Alabama, around the Muscle Shoals, AL region.  A lot of retirees are going there instead of the chocking heat and traffic found in Florida.  Southwest Oregon is another region with mild climate and quality living.  The region includes Grant's Pass and Medford, OR.  This region really is a dessert, opposed to the drippy Portland, OR region, and doesn't get an overabundance of rain.  A number of people are migrating there for the mild climate and from the oppressive politics of California.  Finally, an interesting place in northern New Mexico, is the area around Chama, and Dulce, NM.  They do get more winter, but the quality of living there seems to be pretty good.

There's good and bad no matter wherever one chooses to live.  If it isn't the climate, it's the expenses, crime, or traffic.  By moving, a person is only trading one thing for another.  That said, I'm staying right here!

Sure, the weather can be pretty crummy at times... many times. Think of the variety we get here. It's hard to think of now, but imagine if you lived in San Diego and the weather was the same all year round. That might be a little monotonous. There would be no beautiful snowfalls, the colors in the fall, and everything else we have.

With that being said, this snowfall is becoming a little monotonous, and I'm ready to move on.

How about this............Its November in Arizona. You get up at dawn and drive to Flagtaff. You ski all day, then drive back to Phoenix, where its in the 70's and barbecue in the backyard.

Sounds like heaven to me...............
