A little birdie who has not been wrong up to this point said these channels will be added on 2/19.

We shall see. (Hopefully)

Added in Wisconsin or added to TWC as a whole. I am sure it would be added to TWC just not sure it would happen for Wisconsin ;)

Sounds good though. Sure would like Discovery Channel HD and TLC HD.

This is understood that HistoryHD and National Geographic HD channel is coming to TWC Wisconsin...only.
basshive: Many TWC locations throughout the country now enjoy these HD channels, already.
Considering the fact those locations have billing pricing about the same for our location (we should feel cheated being left out).
It's not about TWC as a whole getting it, but TWC - Wisconsin getting it, period.

The date given coincides with a Tuesday, a typical day for TWC to add HD channels, as in the past (way past, like last year already)!:(

I see nothing of notice in the upcoming changes in the TWC site (it actually has old dates in it  big surprise), so who really knows?

We will read about it with Tim C. once again and then it will appear, if ever.

k... Not sure what you are driving at. What is understood? So you are saying ONLY Wisconsin gets these 2 HD channels? My point was hearing that something is going to be added means nothing to me because as we have seen and as you have driven home 1000 times, our local TW does not offer all of the channels currently avail on the system.

Sorry, I don't intend to be rude here, just that I thought you didn't understand the way TWC corporate works with HD channel additions.
TWC corporate signs contracts or has agreements for some HD channels locations can get (if they want to).

All locations that are TWC then have the ability to offer these HD channels:
Here is the clincher:
TWC corporate does not "make" other TWC locations offer them, it just gives these TWC locations the opportunity to offer these HD channels.
The "ugly" is the similarity in pricing and the amount of HD channels that other TWC locations get, that shafts us Wisconsin subscribers, big time.

Many TWC locations offer these HD channels TWC Wisconsin has been resistant (I am being kind here) to add most, if any, of these HD channels.
By "TWC Wisconsin", this means the local company with the TWC logo for all areas served by TWC, originally NE and SE Wisconsin were (supposedly) separate entities, but no longer...it's just TWC Wisconsin now.
That could explain why one gets the CSR from the Green Bay area telling you what HD locals you get and you're in Milwaukee...ugh!

So I just wanted you to look outside the state and see that just because TWC Wisconsin is (maybe) adding a couple HD channels here and there, it doesn't mean that we are getting every HD channel TWC allows on a national level.

Maybe this better explains it.

See the following more recent links to other locations:

Please notice the other TWC locations that already have these many HD channels:
-TWC Wisconsin is seriously lacking these TWC-available HD channels.:bang:

leprechaunshawn

I just emailed TWC this morning to ask them if there is any truth to this rumor.  Lets hope that I hear back soon and that the answer is 'yes'.

gparris

Thanks for the email to them...they never seem to return mine, despite my rather high cable bills.:(

I wonder if TWC will update its notes on its own website to indicate these soon-to-be added HD channels
- or will it be Tim C. in the JS once again, if they don't reply with their standard form message to you (or any of us).

Good luck!:D

leprechaunshawn

Well its been 6 hours since I contacted them and I still havent heard back.  I got the email address from their page that give you their phone number or email address for 24 hour customer service.  Apparently "24 hour" means that they'll take 24 hours to reply.

I also found this on their website under the FAQ's about HDTV:

"Q:  When will Time Warner Cable launch its high definition service?

A:  Most Time Warner Cable Divisions already offer HDTV service. And, as additional HD channels become available and as local broadcast networks convert to digital signals, we will continue to add them to our HD lineup."

They say that as additional HD channels become available, they will add them.  Sounds like a blatant lie to me.  There are lots of HD channels available, but yet they still have NOT added them.  Maybe we all need to start contacting them and calling them on the flat out lies on their website.

Maybe there is not enough demand for hdtv services,    in this area and to add more HDTV capacity would be a major financial undertaking for TWC so much so
that they may have to raise there prices for all, even non- HDTV customers, and why should non HDTV subscribers subsidize HDTV. in my conversations with others I find a lot of opposition to HDTV. If you  people don't like it go to another provider instead of here and complaining about it. It's to bad that you people, so far can't have your way! The choice is yours to make.

jeffski

Here,as well as across the country, one of the biggest items bought for oneself or as gift for Christmas was HD televisions. The prices have , and continue to, drop dramatically. So the demand is obviously there. It is no longer a fad as it was 3-4 years ago. It's here to stay and the fact that TWC (especially in WI) keeps ignoring this fact and continues to grasp straws with their blatant lie of the 'home of free hd' promo is just sad, indeed. :huh?:

First of all, for TWC to compete with any other provider they will have to work on capacity/sdv issues. Demand? Demand for what? Locals in HD?? Maybe if there was real HD offerings the demand would skyrocket. You are making it sound like TWC would have to go broke (LOL riiiiight) just to appease a few of us misguided hdtv lovers. Digital tv is the future, period. There is no way around it, so this is not about non digital subscribers subsidizing anything. There will always be someone who opposes digital/hdtv. I guess if there is ever opposition we should all just pack up our tents and go home? If we do not like something from our provider we should not try to improve it or strive for change, we should just give up.

I thought this was the Milwaukee HDTV forums. Where else would I talk about HDTV or lackthereof in Milwaukee? :OnAir:

Not enough demand for HDTV??  A simple google search found this little nugget:

"16 million high-definition televisions (HDTV) will be sold in 2007, bringing the total number of HDTVs sold in the U.S. to 52.5 million. This is the prediction of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) based on a new report released today. The report indicates that thirty percent of U.S. households now have an HDTV, likely rising to 36 percent by the end of this year. Among these HDTV households, almost a third own more than one high-definition set, proving the booming nature of this market."

If 1 of 3 households in the US own an HDTV it seems to me that there would be a pretty high demand for HD programming.

Why should non-HDTV subscribers subsidize HD??

Because thats what TWC does.  They claim we dont have the NFL Network or BTN because they dont want to make people pay for something they dont want but I pay for plenty of channels that I dont want.  I dont speak spanish so I dont want spanish channels, I dont shop from my couch so I dont need any home shopping channels and I'm a man so I dont need any womens channels.  I could go on and on but I think I've proved my point.

Why do we come here and complain about it instead of going to another provider?

Because this is a forum set up specifically for the purpose of discussing HDTV programming and/or the lack of it.  Some of us also dont have any other choice than TWC.  I live in an apartment where the building owner wont allow me to have satellite and even if I could put up a dish there are trees in my way.

By the way, its now been over 24 hours since I contacted TWC to ask for confirmation about whether or not we are really getting these two channels and I still have not heard back from them.

leprechaunshawn

Not sure if this is good news or bad news but I spoke to "Andrew" at TWC today and he could neither confirm nor deny and truth to this rumor.  I guess we'll have to wait until the 19th to find out.

Some of us can't go with anything other than TWC.  The condo I'm looking at buying faces the North, so I wouldn't be able get a dish and U-verse isn't available there yet.  If I get the condo, I think I'm just gonna go OTA for awhile until U-verse is available, or by some miracle they would allow people who aren't on the south side of the building to get a dish.

You better hope that TWC does not go to a switched digital system, because your cable card would be useless as the only digital channels that would be available on your local cable would be the  digital channels that were requested by users, in your node area. Since a node area  comprises about 500 households you probably would not have many HDTV choices anyway.
