New station coming in March

From Cuprisin's column:

A NEW DIGITAL CHANNEL: Channel 58 is taking advantage of what the digital TV technology has to offer by adding a "sub-channel" that will be available both over the air and on digital cable. "Me-TV" is the moniker for a channel of old TV shows and sitcoms that will launch in early March.

Over-the-air digital TV viewers will find it on Channel 58.3. It also will be added to digital service on Time Warner and Charter cable.

While digital broadcasting allows high-definition pictures, it also gives TV stations the ability to add sub-channels of programming.

Me-TV's lineup will include programs such as "I Love Lucy," "The Honeymooners," "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Lost in Space."

I wonder what will happen for March Madness?  Will they drop this "Me-TV" when games are playing?  Oh, and kudos to Tim Cuprisin for mentioning that it is available over-the-air.

It will probably debut after March Madness.

What I don't understand is why 58.3?  Why not eliminate 58.2 and put ME-TV as 41.2?

I think this is a bad decision for WDJT to add a 3rd sub-channel as it chews up more bandwidth for 58.1 HD.

They would be better off getting rid of all sub-channels on ch. 58 except March Madness and seriously consider putting out that CBS High Definition signal. People in this forum have trouble getting ch. 58 OTA and part of it is bandwidth issue.

Why continue airing WMLW on 58.2 when they have their own digital transmitter now?

Whats the point in that?

I am personally all for ME-TV as I love classic TV shows,  but it should be put on 41.2 as opposed to 58.3.

This has been on for awhile in Chicago on ch 23, also a Wiegel station.  In fact, they own ch 48 here, it has been ethnic programming, mostly Chinese, & they are changing that to me-too, a 2nd classic TV station in March.  Must be trying to fend off the growing RTN network from coming into Milwaukee & Chicago.  I'm curious if they will put this on in South Bend where they own a station as well.

What a joke and bad business move!  They already compress the day lights out of the HD feeds.  Now what are they going to do?  Is their engineers over there all public high school yes men???

This worries me a great deal. Sure more channels is great but here we go cutting into bandwidth which will likely remind me of watching Sunday Night Football on NBC in a BAD way..

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

This is horrible news, just horrible.

Don't get me wrong.  I love the idea of having more OTA choices, and Me-TV could have some good programming.

But why use a multi-cast signal that's going to steal (even more) valuable bandwidth from HD programming?  The NFL on CBS, as seen on 58, is already ugly - filled with pixelation artifacts galore.  Throw in another sub-channel, and it will look even worse.

Not only that, but if you've looked at WMLW during one of these games, it's picture looks horrible also.  How does this benefit the public?

John L. has it right.  Eliminate 58.2, and add Me-TV to 41.2.

I agree, hopefully they will do it the way you suggested.

I don't get the .2 thing.  All channels are whole numbers so how would you get to the station?

.2 is the same as -2. It just depends on who made your tv or box. My samsung OTA box uses the - and my buddy's aquos uses the .

Wonder if TWC will pick this up? Hope they add it to the analog cable lineup...

I don't know.  I have my gray Samsung box connected to my outdoor TV antenna that gets all the digital TV signals, so I am all set.

I am sure it will be posted on Titan TV website. Just look under the WDJT-TV website and program schedule, you will see CBS58, WMLW-TV, and you should also see ME-TV.

Also whatever your digital TV receiver is...not sure how you are receiving digital broadcasts, but I am sure if you select MENU on your remote, that also will bring up the TV schedule on your digital TV.

The schedule will probably be the same as the ME-TV affiliate in Chicago: http://www.metvchicago.com/whatson/schedule.aspx
