Dear Fox 6:

Yes, we know it is going to snow tonight.  It does that in Wisconsin in the winter.  This storm coming tonight has been well-publicized.  We ALL know it is gonna snow.

No, 8 or 10 or 12 inches of snow, when everyone KNOWS it's coming is NOT life threatening - it is just winter in Wisconsin.

Please don't take IDOL out of HD tonight just to tell us what everyone already knows.  It's lame and stupid.  We can look out the window and see it is snowing.  If we are dumb enough to drive during a snowstorm - it is our choice.

If this was a tornado warning - I totally understand.  People can die if they don't know a tornado is coming.  People won't die from snow coming down.  Yes, they can die if they drive in it - but that is their choice - and the ALREADY KNOW it is gonna snow.

Don't ruin HD IDOL just to tell us a normal everyday fact (snow in winter in WI).  Don't ruin HD IDOL to tell us something we already know about (it is snowing).
Don't ruin HD IDOL to tell us something we can see if we look out the window.

THIS IS WISCONSIN - It snows, it rains, it even gets hot once in a while.  None of these events (save a tornado) is lifethreatening.  Do not turn off HD again please!

Cmon, you dont like their new total wrap around graphic for impending doom??

WISN however, I forgot to applaud them last week. The premeir night of Lost and I believe we had a pretty big snow fall coming. No interuptions, no alerts, all HD glory. I was SHOCKED.

Expect to see Bart, Vince and Rob, early and often!

Good post!

The locals ARE overdoing it with the weather like it is some life-threatening event.  I could understand this if hazardous driving was affected by this as a station's responsibility to report it.  But my problem is you have much smaller snow amounts and they are making a big deal about it!  They do the same thing for, rain and wind!  Obvious weather patters that can be observed by looking out the window,  or going online, could provide the same information without the networks cutting into programing to state the obvious.  You want weather, get cable or dish and tune to The Weather Channel, or use the other above methods.  Too much media is overstating what is already known.

Lets not forget it is "Super Tuesday" so HD will most likely be interrupted already to bring us "breaking news updates" about an election nine months from now :bang:

LuckySe7ens

Eh, I say get all the weather alerts out of the way during American Idol.

Put it in 4:3 behind 60% weather screen for all I care...

Just don't interrupt House in its full HD glory.  There's only a handful of House episodes left, you'll get Idol like 5 days a week once they run out of written shows.

leprechaunshawn

Has anybody contacted Fox6 with this concern?  Seems to me that would be the most logical place to send a message like this.

Mags

I just realized (this won't help all) but since I have D*, I can just watch channel 88 and see all the FOX shows in HD instead of watching Fox 6!

Now I guess there is still risk of election updates on 88 in NY - but that is a chance, where we are guaranteed the local Fox channel screwing up programming for sure.

I can't think of a better way to tell Fox 6 that they are out of line with their weather behavior tonight than to watch the NY channel instead!

I urge all of you that have this option to go ahead and do so!  Watch 88!

(Leprechaun - a person could call Fox 6 till their hair turned blue, and they wouldn't care.  They feel the HD audience is insigificant - and I think they believe that snow is a new thing for WI - it's like we lived in Miami or something and we've never seen snow before.  Anyway, they wouldn't care what people think - they will do what they feel is best, and if that means screwing with HD viewers, who tend to be more affluent, spend more money, and support their advertisers more.... oh well, Fox hasn't been known for their smart business decisions in the past).

TPK

IVe got an even better (well, almost as good) idea....

How about Fox6 joins the 2000s, and gets the proper mixing equipment so they can inform everyone about the snow that everyone knows about, and at the same time NOT kick the HD broadcasts down to crappy SD???

Mags

I called FOX 6 at 6:15 pm - and they told me that ALL PRIME TIME PROGRAMMING WOULD BE IN FULL HD, with no crawlers!

I almost cried - and told the guy to compliment their program director - this is the first time they'll have done this!  I almost cried!

Congrat Fox 6 if you actually do what your person on the phone told me you'd do (he put me on hold and talked to the programming manager).

Now if he lied - I will be all over Fox 6 like flies on sh****t

I DOUBT THAT HE LIED, but if he did.....  I trust people, so will take him at his word until proven otherwise!

techguy1975

so..Idol was uninterrupted, the only mention of the weather was a quick teaser during a regular commercial break...  Guess they finally did listen..

klwillis45

House was a few seconds late coming back from one break due to weather update but it was in full HD otherwise. I'll take that anyday.

Doug Mohr

Congratulations FOX 6!

I think that the best thing to do is to contact FOX 6 today and thank them for their decisions and ask them to continue with this strategy going forward.

Doug

Dan the Man

We all appreciate it that you did not ruin great high definition programming by putting up weather info that we did not need to know about (since we already knoew about it). THANK YOU!!

Fox6 just jumped a notch up in my book.

Cheesehead Dave

Aw... They were doing so good, too. Ten minutes to go with last night's Idol and after a weather report during a commercial break, they forget to flip back to the HD feed. One segment of Idol was in SD until they realized it and flipped back.

Still, it was far better than having the constant SD "It's still snowing!" crawl running constantly.
