Time Warner HD - without receiver

A friend of ours is buying an HD tv set. They current have TW cable, no special packages, or receiver boxes.

Once he gets the new TV, he will be able to get the local channels in HD, right, without a converter....

They don't want the HBOs, etc.. so they are holding off getting a receiver.

Thoughts appreciated.

AH...no.

The only way to get HD channels without a box is via an antenna.

To get the cable channels in HD they will need a digital cable box from the cable company, or a cable card (which most TV's allow for).

Actually, I don't think you are right.

I did alot of reading last night.. doesn't Time Warner have the locals available with QAM?

I tuned them just fine with a simple TWC coax connection while waiting for a new box.  If the TV has a QAM tuner, you're fine for locals.
