Does anyone have 2 modems currently with Roadrunner, but with just 1 account.  I want a direct connection in another part of the house (not wireless) and was wondering if anyone has this setup.  I want to run a cat 5 cable to my HR20 for on demand and want to see if this is something TWC offers

You'd be better off getting a router and, since you don't want to go wireless, just turn off the wireless radios in the router (since I doubt you can find a strictly wired router these days) and run a Cat 5e cable to your desired additional location. If you need the additional speed/bandwidth, just upgrade to RoadRunner Turbo.

I'm fairly (virtually 100%) certain that you couldn't add an additional modem to a single RoadRunner account, because TWC's systems have a one-to-one relationship of cable modem MAC address to account.

Can I ask why you don't want to run wireless?

I have wireless already, I am just concerned about the signal strength in the basement

LowSignal

You can get another modem for ANOTHER full price RR subscription.
Just get a set of powerline adapters if you don't want to use wireless.

Quotesignal strength in the basement
Shouldn't be problem unless your modem is on the second story of your house. First floor to basement shouldn't be a problem. I bring my laptop into the basement all the time and get excellent signal strength down there.

Also, depending on your wireless router, you can sometimes increase it's wireless signal strength.  I have an old Linksys WRT54G, and after I downloaded some 3rd party firmware, a lot of options opened up including the signal strength.  I get a much cleaner connection now on my PS3 and my laptop after increasing the signal.

I also use a Linksys WRT54GS with dd-WRT firmware and bumped my power levels up some. The cable modem and router are installed upstairs and both my PS3 on the first floor and my laptop (even in the basement) can connect just fine via wireless.

If you still don't want or can't connect I'd run that CAT5e or CAT6 cable back from your desired location to your main router or switch.

I used to have two modems (one that I always had, one for a Cisco VPN router) and
they were on one bill, no problem. They don't seem to care, but will ask a BUNCH of
questions before they give it too you. They really didn't seem to understand why I
wanted that configuration, but gave it to me in the end.

2 modems on one bill??  Does that mean you only had to pay for 1 road runner subscription and not two??  Did they charge you any extra for that second modem???

If you had 2 modems and one subscription, did you get the full bandwitdh on both modems? (so like 5Mb down on one and 5Mb down on the other??)   That would mean you would be able to get 10Mb of bandwitdh for the price of 5Mb...   If you did that then by having 2 modems you would have a significant advantage....

If you can get 2 modems with one sub and pay only once, that would be the way to go, but somehow I doubt you can do that...

Sharing a single connection amongst multiple computers, thats what routers are for...   If you have wireless already, Im guessing that you have a router already (a wireless router)...  The wireless device has 4 network ports on the back of it right??? That acts as a network switch so you can hook up four additional computers via network cabling....   You should be able to wire computers up to those port and they should immediately be connected to the internet once you do that....

Wireless between floors of the house can be flakey... It may work or it may not work, or it may work depending on the weather or how much moisture is in the air, etc...  I think wirelss should only be used for connectivity to mobile laptops...  For desktop computers, its always best to wire...

Ideally, you would use regular network cabling, but if its going to be difficult to wire (like if your going from the basement to the second floor), then you can get a pair of those power line-ethernet bridge devices (for an additional expense)..

here is an example of one of these:

These will create a network connection using the power lines already installed in your house....  If you put one next to the computer you want internet access from and another one next to your router, then you should be able to "wire" your computer to your router without having to run additional wiring through your house...

No, it was basically two subscriptions (~$50x2).

I see...  Well that makes sense....

Any particular reason why you just didnt get one subscription and use a router??

Probably none of my business, but I guess Im kinda nosy....

The router is the way to go, that is exactly what they are made for. I have a house with 3 floors, and I have my wireless router on the top floor and I still get a pretty good signal in the basement. If you don't put the wireless router on the middle floor, you should easily get 200-300ft with your wireless, and don't forget to setup your WEP. Half the ppl in my neighborhood I can connect to and go on the net. As a computer tech it's my job to pass that on. LOL

I had wireless for awhile, but the router was also next to the microwave.

I got feed up one day and ran the Cat6 through the heating duct.
