i have a technical issue with the scientific atlanta explorer 4250HDC.  in the settings, you can force to output in one resolution like 1080i, which i've always done to speed up switching channels.  but last week, it stopped doing it.  do i have a defective box?  it's connected via HDMI to my sony KDL-40V2500.

I just got the same box last week... switched from component to HDMI tonight and it won't stick with the resolution I have set either.  I'm guessing your box isn't defective since mine does the same thing.  It's probably some sort of an "upgrade" they did to the Navigator software.

If you press the # button to stretch/zoom the picture, it switches from the native res. back to whatever you have set in the menu.  Still doesn't fix the slower channel changes though.

I thought the format setting was only for component video.  DVI & subsequent HDMI ports always put out the native format of the source tuned.
Am I off base here on this issue?  I could be wrong...

That hasn't been the case for me since I had a Pioneer HD box with DVI.  All of the 8300HDs I've had upscaled everything to 1080i through HDMI.  The Pace HD box I had upscaled as well.  I figure it's a Navigator issue, since it changes back to 1080i when I zoom.  Also.. whenever I turn the box on, if it's an HD channel that was last on, it stays at 480i until I change to a channel with a different resolution.

I can always change back to component.. there's not a big picture difference.  I just wanted to cleanup the mess of cables I have.
