So I guess next time I should not speak when I have no facts. My mistake. It was just my wild #@$ guess as to what they might do. I don't see anyone playing well together in the sandbox at the moment.

? - I assume that the 3 local markets (GB and MIL and Dallas) must get the game due to some NFL contract or something like that? I would love to understand why this is.

QuoteWe don't blindly pay for higher prices, I know exactly how they are ripping us off, but you Dish customers always act like TWC are the only ones that raise fees. If I remember right you guys just got charged a addition fee for a few of your HD channels also, plus I also know that prices have gone up for the Direct TV also.

I am not saying that Directv doesn't raise rates, all providers raise rates. What I am saying is I have never heard Directv not coming to terms with channel providers because they were trying to 'protect' their consumers from having their prices increase.. I actually don't have a problem with Directv raising prices as long as I see some sort of value attached to it.

Again, why is it the satellite and FIOS providers are providing these channels at no additional cost to the consumer, but TWC is having such a hard time doing this ?? Why does TWC suddenly feel the need to protect their customers from a supposed rate increase ? Have they ever done this in the past or have they always just jacked the rates up without having the customers best interest in mind ?

Something doesn't add up in TWC-ville and I am curious why it seems everyone with TWC I talk to blames the NFL Network and BTN automatically first. Seems to me I would be blaming TWC for foot-dragging, and putting up total BS excuses why they won't carry it.

I agree I have no idea, but if you watched WISN news at 5:00 they did a piece about the Packers vs Dallas game, and they were talking to a Direct TV installer, and he said he had 7 dishes to installed in the next few days. I think TWC will get the message soon enough. They claim they aren't being hurt by all this, I say that's 100% BS, and the number will show soon enough. There is no way in the world this whole BTN/NFL deal isn't hurting them.
This spring I will be moving over to satellite and I can't wait to hand TWC their boxes to them, and tell them what they can do with them.
My big thing is that I have 7 TVs in the house, but I only need 3 cable boxes right now. The rest are on basic cable. With Direct I would have to pay for a box for every TV, and that makes getting Direct more expensive then cable. As soon as I work that out, I will be switching. Thanks Matt

In December DTV will be charging me $5 more for the HD package. But they have added dozens of HD channels.

As said above, all providers raise rates from time to time.  The question is what, if anything, are you getting along with the higher rates.

Quote from: brewguru;42686Just like with the Badgers, 20 years ago, you were lucky to see even ONE game each year televised live. Usually, they were run on tape delay at 11pm.
.

You forgot how awful the Badgers were 20 years ago. :) Once they started to win, the coverage increased.

And that to me is the main point.

DTV has added a boatload of HD channels.   Did I really think there would not be a price increase? Of course not.

New Birds, NEW network offerings (BTN, NFL) New hardware etc, This stuff isn't cheap.  $5.00 a month is just fine with me.  After the first of the year, another increase?? Probably, will I complain?? Probably, Will i pay it? Gladly.

The better half and I have become homebodies, preferring to spend our entertainment dollars to enhance our viewing pleasure at home rather than sticking to the floor and having to listen to someone's phone call two rows behind us.

We figured it out that last time we went out to a movie, Chronicles of Narnia (gives you an idea how long it's been) Admission, Concessions (One Popcorn bucket, two large sodas) and gas to Waukesha was almost $40.00!  That's nearly half my monthly Sat bill.  Not to mention the sound system was messed up for most of the movie!!

If I was still a TWC sub and in the past year I was offered a handful of new channels, without BTN, NFL, and a boatload of HD and then you tell me my bill is increasing would I complain? You bet, and I would be looking at other options.

I echo this sentiment 100%.

They are actually just charging the $5 fee if you want HDNet and HDNet Movie channel and a couple others.

I don't know what is available where you are OTA, but what I do is distribute the output from one of my Dish receivers over Ch. 3, and pick up all the Milwaukee stations from my OTA antenna.  This way I have a reasonable selection on every TV, along with the selected channel from the satellite.

My two main TV's (one HD) each have their dedicated receiver, and the bedrooms, and workshop, can receive the signals as needed.  This works fine for us, and is worth consideration!

Quote from: RLJSlick;42691I'm not trying to defend TWC, god knows I wouldn't do that, but don't act like buying the dish is any cheaper, because when I priced out everything a few month ago, it came out to be about the same.

It may have come out about the same as far as monthly cost, but not the same for what you are receiving. Were all of the channels that you compared were digital? How many were you getting for the same price that were in HD?

Apples to Oranges...

Very happy to have D*, especially on Thanksgiving when Fox6 had signal problems but D* also gives me the HD FOX feed from NYC for free which had no transmission problems. Just another of the little things we were thankful for on Thanksgiving.

I understand this problem, hear it from many with TWC, but IF you put a box from D* on each set, you would get every channel you subscribe to on each TV. With your current setup, you are only getting 1-99 analog channels on 4 TV's so you only are getting all of the channels you pay for on 3. It's not a fair comparison but there is no easy answer.
I'm fortunate that we only have my wife and I in the house, 4 TV's hooked up to 2 H20 boxes. Each box has 1 TV in another room that can only show the same channel as on the TV next to the box. That's fine for us: 2 people-2 boxes, we can each watch whatever we want at any time. If we had kids that wanted a TV in their room, they would have to pay the $5 fee for their own box. Luckily (for other reasons :D ) they are grown and out of the house.

Exactly...it's all about money. **** the fans!

I suppose the NFL wouldn't consider making the home markets state wide? This would be a little less of a problem. Like that would ever happen.

Steve Mann

I'm predicting the day when the NFL Network becomes like HBO/Showtime and becomes a full pay network. They will no longer sell the broadcast rights to local TV networks, but instead require fans to subscribe to the NFL Network to see any and all NFL games. I see this happening in the next 5-10 years.
