Caller ID on my TV screen

OK.  I have the All-in-One package from TWC (aka Satans Minions).

Yesterday, for the first time ever, my caller ID info showed up on my TV screen on incoming calls.

This never happened before yesterday.  I haven't got any new equipment.  In fact, my HD-DVR is the same one I've had for over a year now.

How did this happen?

Also, I checked online at how to turn this feature off and my menu doesn't have the option to shut it off.  I am stuck with it on.

What the F?

Any advice short of me calling The Minions for help?

I don't have digital phone, but the Caller ID channel showed up on my box.  Go to channel 199 and I think you can turn it off there.

They just added this the other day to the HD-DVR's (finally), I've had it on my Non-DVR box for quite a few months.  I just happened to notice there is actually a channel devoted to it (forgot the channel number but it's just below HBO 311 so probably 199).  It's about time....they've been advertising it for months.

Thanks guys.  I will check out channel 199 tonight after work.

you  can also have them turn it off at the office.

It works good, but the phone number display graphics using Passport are a bit crude (by any standard), but it gets the job done.:D

You have to go back to Channel 199 to get your call log and change the display time default from 15 seconds to more (if you would really want to), but that is easy if you are not recording two shows at a time with a DVR as you have to use one of your tuner's to get to it.
This certainly eliminates having to run around during a show or movie (if you are not watching disc-based material), trying to figure out who is calling and if you want to answer the phone....thanks, TWC! :)

Aye, the channel 199 thing was spot on.

Also, coincidently, there was an automated message on my phone last night telling me the same thing: to turn to 199 for more info on caller id on tv.

I like the feature.  I just don't need it on if people are over watching a sporting event or something.

Did gparris actually say something positive about TWC!?  I must be on the wrong board ;)

Hey, there, I only report what I know, tell it like it is and give credit where credit is due.;)

I don't like TWC - Wisconsin, where the management here thinks it can sell LESS product (fewer HD channels) for the same approximate price as they do at other TWC locations, that's all.:bang:

Let me be the first to chime in against Time Warner here.

They need a way to allow this if you don't use their digital phone service.

If I could build a MythTV box for instance, that was able to tune all their channels (I can't), I would toss a modem in the thing and display caller ID info on the screen -- but because I'm stuck using their DVR I cannot do this.

They wouldn't do that for a competing service :D

Dish and DirecTV can do it because they have dialup modems in the receivers.. something that cable doesn't need in their receivers.  U-verse will be able to do it too when they introduce U-voice.

FYI: Changing caller ID settings is different depending on whether you have the old Passport or the new Navigator Guide:

For Passport: (which I still have,) go to channel 199 and you can access your Caller's List and change settings by pressing the A Button on your remote.  Follow the screen prompts to make your changes.  To return to watching TV, change channels

For Navigator: Press "A" to go to General Settings, than find Caller ID in the list and press Select to make your changes.  To return to watching TV, press Exit or change channels.
