Though I have not been very active recently, I have been on this forum since the beginning.  Well I am now off to greener pastures, Chicago suburbia!

So I just wanted to drop a note to say thanks for the forum.  It was a real information hub in the early days and it was fun to be a pioneer.  For me the change will be interesting to see how Chicago, the number 3 market, handles HD.

So thanks for all the fun, so long and farewell!

We've enjoyed your contributions... and even though you'll be flatlander, you'll still always be welcome here (unless you become a Bears fan... then we'll have to ban you for life)...:rof:

Good luck and best wishes!

Good luck with living in Illinois - it "feels" a little different there, in Chicagoland, but in a good way.:)
Due to a job change, I lived in Palatine, IL for a several years, after moving from the East Side of Milwaukee many years ago and it was change, not for better or worse, just different.
But I started to miss the fun things about Wisconsin, including its slightly lower cost of living, so I moved across the border-barely, to Pleasant Prairie, WI
-and have stayed there ever since.
There seems to be some "hidden costs" that I experienced, living in Illinois, but since this is job-related for you (as it was me),
my experience is that you will probably be better compensated than you would,  for the same job in Milwaukee:
Illinois seems to pay a bit better, IMHO.
Naperville is a bit farther south than Palatine, so I don't think the "commute" to my area of Wisconsin would be worth it, however.

As for HDTV, your FIVE HD locals of CBSHD, NBCHD, FOXHD, ABCHD and CWHD will all light up on your DirectvHD dish, including the vast array of HD channels now offered, quite unlike Milwaukeeland's local HD network mess using dish only.
IF you don't do Directv (and I don't see why you wouldn't there):
-Comcast offers some of the  best in HD channel availabilty anywhere, quite unlike pitful TWC Milwaukee..!

Keep posting and stay in the 21st Century (your tagline).

Maybe the spouse will let you get some new HDTVs when you move or help you set up a cool surround sound setup, too, in your new home!

Please remember that just because you have moved.........you can still enjoy the site and all of the vast resources that are available here.
Stop by every once in a while and make us all feel envious of all the great channels we're not getting. :bang:

My new house is served by both Comcast and WOW! cable.  There is no FIOS or AT&T U-Verse (not even DSL) in my area.  I went with WOW! for telephone and internet and I was seriously considering them for TV.  However, they were not competitive with Directv so I stuck with them.

So I have yet to move (will do next week) but I already have two new boxes in Naperville (a HR20 and a HR21) as well as my HR10 up here.  I got my locals moved to Chicago, as I can't seem to have both Milwaukee and Chicago simultaneously.  Interestingly my HR10 now gets the Chicago locals in SD over the satellite with the Milwaukee locals in HD over the antenna....

The only thing with the Directv locals is that they still do not have PBS in HD and in Chicago there are 2 HD PBS channels.  So I will be installing an antenna down there to get the locals OTA.  Unfortunately one of the boxes that Directv sent me was a HR21 which can not do OTA, even though I specifically requested two HR20s.  I just got off the phone with them this evening and they claim that they are totally out of HR20s in the Chicago area.  Only thing they could do was to "break" the HR21 and have it replaced by a refurbished HR20 (as there are next to no refurbished HR21s at present).  I accepted this.  Though now I am having second thoughts as I can record the PBS HD channels on the HR20 I do have and also the HR10 I will be relocating.

I'm wondering if there is an advantage to keeping the HR21?

Anyway, I will still check in on this forum every now and then.
